Alabama Barker Says She’s on Weight-Loss Medication to Avoid ‘Ogre’ Look

Alabama Barker is openly discussing her struggles with body image. The 18-year-old, daughter of Travis Barker and stepdaughter of Kourtney Kardashian, recently shared on social media that she’s using weight loss medication because she’s “tired of being fat.”

In a “get ready with me” video shared with her followers and later reposted by a fan account, Alabama explained how she feels she looks better in real life than in photographs. She expressed frustration over negative comments about her appearance, saying, “I have this thing where I photograph so ugly and people are like, ‘Oh my God, you’re so fat and you’re so ugly.’ It’s like, I see what you guys are seeing, but just meet me in person. I feel like I really don’t look like that.”

Continuing in the video, she stated, “I’m on weight loss medication because I’m tired of being fat and photographing like a damn ogre.”

Her revelation comes nearly a year after she addressed critics online, revealing she was struggling with a thyroid problem and an autoimmune disease. In August 2023, Alabama told her followers that these health issues were significant reasons for her weight gain. She urged people to keep their opinions to themselves, adding, “It’ll get you further in life.”

Despite these challenges, Alabama maintained that once her health issues were balanced, she would lose weight. She emphasized that her weight gain had been minimal, and it’s not unusual for young girls to experience weight fluctuations. “Weight fluctuates,” she said. “I don’t want any girls that are young, watching this, that are gaining weight, to ever think there’s something wrong with it.”

Alabama Barker is the third child of Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and his ex-wife Shanna Moakler, following her brother, Landon Barker, 20. Travis also raised Moakler’s first-born daughter, Atiana De La Hoya, 25. Last November, Travis and Kourtney Kardashian welcomed a new addition to their blended family, baby Rocky.

The larger family unit also includes Kourtney’s children with ex Scott Disick: Mason, 14, Penelope, 12, and Reign, 9. The arrival of baby Rocky has only strengthened the bond between Kourtney and Travis. “Kourtney and Travis are happier than ever,” a source told ET. “Since welcoming Rocky, it’s become even more evident that they were meant for each other. They are just as in love as they were when they first got together.”

Additionally, the source noted that Kourtney and Travis, who are 45 and 48 respectively, are nearly inseparable. “They are completely inseparable, by choice, and love to travel, plan fun activities and events together, spend time at home, and shop for their house and baby,” the source explained. “They make sure to carve out time for each other as a couple and know that it’s needed and respected.”

Alabama’s revelations are expected to resonate with many young people who face similar scrutiny and challenges. Her candidness about using weight loss medication and dealing with health issues reflects the pressures faced by public figures, especially young women, in managing their image and responding to public criticism.
