8/24: CBS Weekend News 20:05

In a tragic incident, a 16-year-old student from Morgan Academy in Alabama lost his life following a severe injury sustained during a high school football game on Friday night.

Caden Tellier, a junior who played as a quarterback, suffered an injury during a tackle in the third quarter of the game against Southern Academy, held in Selma. According to Bryan Oliver, the headmaster of Morgan Academy, Tellier incurred a brain injury and was subsequently airlifted to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital.

The heartbreaking news of Caden’s passing was shared by his family on social media. In a heartfelt statement on Facebook, they wrote, “Our boy, Caden Tellier has met Jesus face to face. We appreciate all of your prayers, and we covet them for the hard days ahead.” They emphasized the kindness and love Caden spread during his life, expressing that his legacy would continue through others, as lives would be saved through organ donation.

In a statement released on the school’s official Facebook page, Oliver acknowledged the tremendous impact Caden had on those around him, stating he was a “shining light” in the school’s community. The message conveyed the deep sorrow felt by both the school community and Caden’s family as they mourned his tragic loss.

Oliver remarked, “There are no words to describe how we feel as a school community and family. Caden will never be forgotten for who he was and what he means to Morgan Academy.”

In light of this tragedy, Morgan Academy has announced the cancellation of all sports activities for the upcoming week. This includes their scheduled football game this Friday against Wilcox Academy, as the school focuses on supporting students and families during this difficult time.
