Alan Silvestri Reportedly Returning for Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars

Composer Alan Silvestri seems to be gearing up for another exciting project within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Silvestri, renowned for his masterful scores in “Back to the Future” and “Forrest Gump,” first ventured into the MCU with “Captain America: The First Avenger.” He later composed the music for all four “Avengers” movies, leaving a lasting impact with his memorable “Avengers” theme.

While Marvel’s early films often faced criticism for their lackluster music, Silvestri’s iconic “Avengers” theme stood out. It’s a piece of music that has been revisited and adapted in numerous Marvel productions since its debut in 2012’s “Marvel’s The Avengers.”

Silvestri is no stranger to the comic book genre, having also scored films like “Judge Dredd” and “RED 2.” Recently, following announcements about “Avengers: Doomsday” at San Diego Comic-Con, Silvestri expressed his excitement on social media, saying he “can’t wait” to get started. This sentiment was echoed by directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who replied, “Let’s get started.”

Details about the plot of “Avengers: Doomsday” remain scarce. However, it has been confirmed that Robert Downey, Jr. will portray Doctor Doom, a pivotal villain who will appear in both “Avengers: Doomsday” and its sequel, “Avengers: Secret Wars.”

This past weekend has been particularly thrilling for Marvel enthusiasts. “Deadpool & Wolverine” shattered box office records, and Marvel’s Hall H presentation became the highlight of the latter half of San Diego Comic-Con.

“Secret Wars” is anticipated to be loosely adapted from Jonathan Hickman’s comic of the same name, as opposed to the 1980s version, which had a more “Mortal Kombat”-like storyline. This led to years of speculation about Doctor Doom’s role as the ultimate antagonist in the sixth “Avengers” film. There were also rumors that Downey might return as an Iron Man variant, but few predicted that he would take on the role of Doctor Doom.

The announcement of Downey as Doom has dominated conversations within the geek community, reigniting discussions about the MCU’s future. It will be interesting to see if this momentum carries forward to the release of “Captain America: Brave New World” and “Thunderbolts” next year. With the significant box office success of “Deadpool & Wolverine” and the buzz from San Diego Comic-Con, there is a renewed sense of optimism about Marvel Studios’ future.

Fans can look forward to Alan Silvestri’s return in “Avengers: Doomsday,” set for release in May 2026.
