Alec Baldwin is currently standing trial in New Mexico for the tragic shooting that occurred on the set of the film Rust back in 2021. Baldwin faces involuntary manslaughter charges after the unfortunate incident claimed the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounded director Joel Souza. The deadly event unfolded during a scene preparation where Baldwin was to draw his gun but not actually fire it. Somehow, the gun was loaded with a live round instead of a dummy round, escaping proper checks before arriving on set. Baldwin insists he did not pull the trigger, though prosecutors contest this claim.

Throughout the trial, Baldwin has not appeared particularly pleased, which is understandable given the grave nature of the charges and the potential for prison time. This setting demands his utmost attention and respectful behavior, contrasting significantly from the laid-back rules of a movie set. However, it seems Baldwin does not fully grasp this transition.

During a heated argument over the admissibility of Baldwin’s private phone calls to his wife, made in the hours directly after the shooting, the courtroom witnessed an unexpected disruption. As the jury was not present, Baldwin was seen listening intently to the prosecutor, eventually appearing agitated as he rocked back and forth. In a surprising move, Baldwin stood up and exited the courtroom while the prosecutor was still speaking and his attorney, Alex Spiro, was engrossed in his notes.

Spiro quickly noticed Baldwin’s absence, looking around in confusion before requesting a private discussion with the judge. After they returned, the judge swiftly ruled on the motion before continuing with the proceedings. Baldwin soon re-entered the courtroom, but this time he was carrying a cup of coffee.

This sudden and unannounced exit, followed by a return with coffee, raised eyebrows given the serious context of the trial. While it’s conceivable that Baldwin might have had a sudden need to leave due to a personal emergency or illness, his reappearance with coffee does not cast him in a favorable light at such a critical juncture.
