Alfonso Ribeiro Hints at 20-lb. Weight Loss Before ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Return

When Dancing with the Stars returns for its 33rd season on September 17, Alfonso Ribeiro will step back into the spotlight as a new man. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alum, 52, will not only mark his milestone tenth year as host, now co-hosting with Julianne Hough, but he will also reveal a significant 20-pound weight loss.

The America’s Funniest Home Videos host has committed to his health in recent years, transforming his diet with the guidance of his wife, Angela Unkrich. This dedication has yielded impressive results, of which Alfonso is quite proud.

Speaking with People ahead of the DWTS premiere, Alfonso shared his excitement over his recent weight loss. “I’ve lost 20 pounds, so now I’m like, ‘Oh, I think I might look a little better when they ask me to do some of the little dances in the opening numbers.'”

“You know, I am ready to rock,” he joked, building anticipation for the new season. “I know that it’s going to be a tight season and we are gonna have some fun. It’s gonna be great and the dancing will be better than ever.”

Joining Alfonso and Julianne on the show will be returning judges Derek Hough, Bruno Tonioli, and Carrie Ann Inaba. So far, the only announced contestant is Olympian Stephen Nedoroscik, also known as Pommel Horse Hero.

Alfonso has previously spoken about a health scare concerning his youngest son, Anders, which inspired his family to adopt healthier eating habits and lifestyle changes. He shares sons Alfonso “AJ” Lincoln, nine, and Anders Reyn, eight, as well as daughter Ava, four, with his wife Angela. The couple married in 2012, and Alfonso also has a 20-year-old daughter, Sienna, from his previous marriage to Robin Stapler.

Speaking with Tamron Hall on her talk show last year, Alfonso explained that Anders’ health issue led them to learn “how to feed him” and maintain a non-toxic household to ensure he is always “pain-free.”

Detailing their new lifestyle, Alfonso said, “We live a completely non-toxic life where we don’t eat any sugar… Gluten-free, corn-free, dairy-free, oats-free, anything that makes you swollen, we typically stay away from.” He added, “People are always in pain,” but since “learning how to eat properly,” that’s no longer the case. “I live a virtually pain-free life because nothing’s swollen, right?”

Despite the restrictions, Alfonso assures that his family isn’t missing out on delicious treats, thanks to Angela’s cooking. “I have some of the best desserts ever because my wife makes it,” he said, even hinting at a future cookbook due to her fantastic baking skills.

Looking ahead, Alfonso is eager to showcase his new physique and enthusiasm for the upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars. With a rejuvenated focus on health and well-being, he stands prepared to entertain and inspire viewers as they embark on another thrilling season of dance.
