Alien TV Show: Title Revealed, Filming Wrapped, and Everything We Know

It’s an exciting time for Alien fans. A new movie directed by Fede Álvarez is set to be released this August. Additionally, an FX series prequel to Ridley Scott’s iconic 1979 film has recently wrapped up filming. The series is titled Alien: Earth.

This news comes directly from showrunner Noah Hawley, acclaimed for his work on Fargo and Legion, both also FX productions. In a recent conversation with Variety, Hawley revealed that filming for Alien: Earth is complete, and the project has moved into post-production. He hinted that the show is going to be “a very big show,” sparking much excitement.

FX boss John Landgraf shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming series in discussions with Variety. He mentioned that he and the network are “bullish” about the new Alien series. As post-production progresses, they have been reviewing weekly cuts of the show. Landgraf also disclosed that they’ve asked Hawley to draft scripts for two seasons of Alien: Earth before he potentially returns to Fargo for a sixth season.

Despite the excitement, specific details about the series’ plot and characters remain under wraps. However, Deadline has confirmed a cast lineup that includes Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Samuel Blenkin, Essie Davis, Timothy Olyphant, Kit Young, Adarsh Gourav, and David Rysdahl.

One character, portrayed by Chandler, is rumored to be akin to a character from Poor Things named Wendy, who possesses the body of an adult woman but the mental consciousness of a child. This detail, however, has not yet been officially verified.

Executive produced by Ridley Scott, the new series is set before the events of the first Alien movie and marks the franchise’s first narrative set on Earth. The original Alien movie takes place in the year 2122, while Alien: Earth is set approximately seventy years prior.

Hawley also mentioned that the series would stylistically align more closely with the first two Alien films rather than Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, even though the story technically occurs closer to the latter two within the timeline.

Alien: Earth is anticipated to premiere on FX in 2025.
