After just one season on Prime Video, My Lady Jane has been canceled, as reported by Deadline. The historical fantasy series centers on Lady Jane Grey in an alternate version of 16th century England, where Ethians (humans who can take animal form) and ordinary humans known as the Verity co-exist. As the cousin to Edward VI, Jane is next in line for the throne and is coerced by her mother to marry Lord Guildford Dudley.

According to multiple sources, the series was axed due to low viewership. Despite its premiere on June 27, 2024, garnering positive reviews and achieving a 92 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, it didn’t gather enough viewers to warrant a renewal.

After news of the cancellation spread on social media, fans voiced their disappointment with Amazon’s decision to cut the show.

“imo My Lady Jane was (significantly) better than Bridgerton s3, and I’m just so BAFFLED that people will watch the latter for the period drama romance but not the former [sic]!!!” tweeted one user on X, adding, “How is there an audience for one and not the other?!”

Other fans also compared the series to Bridgerton‘s third season, with another user tweeting, “people need to understand that even though bridgerton has more streams it doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily a BETTER show [sic].”

Actress Emily Bader played the titular character, Lady Jane Grey. Just before the eight-episode series was canceled, Emily was cast to play Poppy in the upcoming adaptation of People We Meet on Vacation alongside co-star Tom Blyth.

Edward Bluemel portrayed Lord Guildford Dudley, Anna Chancellor played Lady Frances Grey, Rob Brydon took on the role of Lord Dudley, Jordan Peters depicted King Edward VI, Kate O’Flynn played Princess Mary, Abbie Hern was Princess Bess, Henry Ashton played Lord Stan Dudley, Oliver Chris was the Author, Dominic Cooper took on Lord Seymour, and Jim Broadbent played the Duke of Leicester.

The series was based on the books written by Cynthia Hand, Jodi Meadows, and Brodi Ashton.
