All You Need to Know About ‘Freakier Friday’ So Far

Dynamic onscreen mother and daughter duo Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan will return for more shenanigans in a Freaky Friday sequel loaded with both returning and new guest stars.

Spring of 2023 first hinted at the follow-up film to the 2003 body swap comedy when the New York Times did a 20th-anniversary piece for the first film.

Everything we know about Freaky Friday 2, which is titled Freakier Friday, lies below.

The film is slated for a 2025 release in theaters.

Freakier Friday has wrapped production. Both Lohan and Curtis reflected on the final moments of filming the sequel film. Lohan teased the last Monday of production, while Curtis posted on the last Friday.

Chad Michael Murray will return to reprise his role as Anna’s original love interest Jake. Original cast members Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Michell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky and Rosalind Chao will return as well.

Sophia Hammons (Up Here), Julia Butters (The Gray Man, The Fabelmans) and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (Never Have I Ever) are new additions to the second film, and Manny Jacinto (The Good Place, The Acolyte) will also join in the role of grown-up Anna Coleman’s (Lohan) husband. Deadline exclusively reported that Jordan E. Cooper has been cast in the role of Jett.

The return to the world of Tess (Curtis) and Anna will involve a multigenerational twist. After experiencing a body swap with her single mother in the original film thanks to a magic fortune cookie, Anna now has her own daughter as well as a stepdaughter. The merging of two families provides ground for another instance of what happened in Freaky Friday (2003).

Curtis did confirm that one swap not happening would be that between Tess and Murray’s character Jake.

Manny Jacinto will play Lindsay Lohan’s husband in ‘Freakier Friday’.

“That would be a movie,” Curtis said on 20 Questions On Deadline Podcast. “That would be a different sequel. No, I don’t swap with Jake. I’ll let everybody know that I’m not playing Jake. I can’t really say much. We’re right in the fat of it right now.”

Freaky Friday is based on the same-name children’s book by Mary Rodgers, and a film adaptation was also made in 1976 starring Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster as mother and daughter.

Nisha Ganatra will direct the Freaky Friday sequel.

Jordan Weiss wrote the script, and the producer of the first film Andrew Gunn will produce with Kristin Burr.
