Allow Your Digestive System to Rest

Gisele Bündchen may not grace the runway as frequently as she did in the past, but the former Victoria’s Secret Angel still possesses a stunning supermodel figure. Much of this can be attributed to intermittent fasting, according to various reports.

The mother of two is not alone in her praise for intermittent fasting. Celebrities like Cameron Diaz and Chris Pratt have also shared their positive experiences with the regimen as a means to stay in shape.

The Brazilian model has a routine that includes waking up at 5 a.m. for meditation and a glass of lemon water, followed by a workout. Intermittent fasting is also a crucial part of her lifestyle. In her 2018 book Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life, she detailed the benefits of the 5:2 intermittent fasting diet.

This version of intermittent fasting involves eating normally for five days a week and restricting calorie intake to 500-600 calories on the other two days. Gisele revealed that she fasts until lunchtime on her fasting days to give her body time to rest and digest. “It takes a lot of energy for our bodies to digest the food we eat, and I think it’s a good idea to sometimes give our digestive system a rest,” she wrote.

Gisele’s diet primarily consists of eggs, smoothies, greens, various vegetables, and plenty of protein. However, there are certain things she avoids entirely, including white sugar. “To me, white sugar means poison. There are so many other ways you can sweeten your food that are delicious,” she said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal in March. She prefers natural sweeteners like honey, maple syrup, and dates.

Her focus is not just on what she eats but also on where her food comes from and how it is grown. “I see my body as a temple. I don’t want to feel sluggish after I eat. I don’t want to have a stomach ache or be constipated. My whole goal is to live the longest I can, living the best life that I can,” she explained.

Further details about her dietary habits can be found in her Nourish cookbook. “No McDonald’s or shelf-stable cupcakes or candy for me. My body is my temple, and my temple is sacred. Eating processed food is not being loving to myself,” she emphasized.
