Amy Adams Leads in New “Nightbitch” Trailer

Searchlight Pictures has unveiled the first trailer for Nightbitch, an intriguing horror comedy starring Amy Adams. The film, based on Rachel Yoder’s 2021 novel, centers on a suburban mom who becomes convinced she is transforming into a dog.

Marielle Heller, known for directing the 2019 Mr. Rogers biopic A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood featuring Tom Hanks, will both write and helm the movie. Annapurna Pictures initially acquired the rights before selling the distribution rights to Fox for approximately $25 million, according to Deadline.

Adams, a six-time Academy Award nominee, seamlessly transitions between high-profile blockbuster hits like Disenchanted and Man of Steel and critically acclaimed dramas. She first gained widespread recognition in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and previously held smaller roles in productions like The Office and Serving Sara.

While the official movie logline remains sparse, the synopsis from Yoder’s novel provides a glimpse into the narrative:

An ambitious mother puts her art career on hold to become a stay-at-home mom to her newborn son. However, her new life doesn’t meet her expectations. Two years in, she discovers a dense patch of hair on her neck and notices her canines appear sharper than she remembered. Her husband, often away on business trips, dismisses her growing fears.

As her symptoms worsen and her urge to embrace her dog-like tendencies increases, she battles to keep her alter-canine-identity a secret. Her search for answers leads her to a mysterious book, A Field Guide to Magical Women: A Mythical Ethnography, and introduces her to a group of moms involved in a multi-level marketing scheme who might also be hiding more than they appear.

Nightbitch arrives in theaters on December 6th.
