Andrew Garfield’s Girlfriend Condemns Cruel Reactions to Their Relationship

Andrew Garfield’s girlfriend, who identifies as a “witch,” has criticized the “misogynistic” response to their relationship.

The Spider-Man star revealed his relationship with Dr. Kate Tomas, a self-proclaimed “professional witch” and “spiritual mentor,” in April. However, Tomas was unprepared for the intense scrutiny and reaction that followed.

Speaking to the Sunday Times, Tomas discussed the press and public interest and highlighted the misogyny that often accompanies a woman’s achievements when compared to a famous man’s.

“It’s frustrating that no matter how accomplished or impactful a woman is, it’s always going to be more interesting if they are in a relationship with a man,” Tomas shared. “I don’t want to sit under anybody’s shadow.”

Tomas holds a PhD in Theology from the University of Oxford, where she also taught Theology and Philosophy. She and Garfield were linked romantically in April after being seen holding hands on an apparent double date with singer Phoebe Bridgers and Bo Burnham in California.

Tomas also opened up about the challenges of dealing with press intrusion.

“They [the paparazzi] will take maybe 150 pictures, then they choose the four where you look worst,” Tomas noted.

On her podcast, The Friday Emails, Tomas expressed that the reaction from other women has been equally distressing.

“F***ing hell, nothing could prepare me for having literally thousands of women telling me I’m ugly, I’m unattractive, I’m less than in every conceivable way,” she said.
