Angel Reese Delivers Bold Message Amid False Narratives

Despite being one of the most popular players in the league right now, Chicago Sky star Angel Reese is not immune to the negativity that is constantly thrown in her direction. In fact, one might argue that it is her fame that has brought about the false narratives that smear her name. After all, you can’t please everyone, right?

Critics have regularly been nitpicking certain areas of Reese’s game, as well as the attitude she carries on and off the court. Some believe that the rookie sensation has only found success in the WNBA because of the support she’s gotten from her team and the Sky coaching staff, and that the 22-year-old is grossly overhyped.

In terms of the way she carries herself, the naysayers have questioned whether or not she’s a good role model for the kids considering her knack for trash-talking during games. For some, this goes beyond competitive spirit and is a blatant manifestation of her arrogance and a misplaced sense of self-confidence.

For her part, though, Reese is having none of it. Speaking to reporters ahead of Sunday’s clash against the Phoenix Mercury, the former LSU superstar got brutally honest about the false narratives that have clouded her rise to becoming one of the top superstars in the league today.

“Just continue to be unapologetically me,” she said “… There’s a lot of negativity, but you see all these people yelling my name. They still love me and the positivity, that gets me to wake up every day and still be me and still be positive. Through the negativity, I know there’s a lot of positivity with that.”

For Angel Reese, it’s all about filtering the hate and instead, focusing on the positives. As she mentioned above, the good thing is that there’s a whole lot of positivity that’s also helping fuel her to be the best version of herself.

Reese, in partnership with the Chicago Sky, recently launched an anti-hate campaign on social media, wherein the organization utilizes artificial intelligence to screen hateful messages for the players. Clearly, Reese is fighting back in her own way.
