Angel Reese Discusses Wrist Injury and Upcoming Surgery Plans

Angel Reese has turned to social media to share details about her recent injury, revealing a small crack in a bone in her wrist that necessitates surgery. The surgery is scheduled for Tuesday.

In a video posted to her TikTok account late Sunday night, Reese recounted how the injury occurred. “I fell on my hand when I got the and-1. When I fell back and fell on my hand, it resulted in a small crack in my bone,” she explained.

The doctors presented Reese with two options: to undergo surgery or to forgo it. She shared her concern regarding the risks of not opting for surgery, stating, “I could literally have arthritis at 22 years old. That wasn’t an option. The bone could completely shatter. Right now, it’s like a hairline fracture… they’re going to put a small screw in it. I wasn’t going to let it get any worse.”

Reese anticipates being in a hard cast for four weeks, followed by a soft cast for another two weeks. “Long term, I could have had serious issues playing again because this is a very hard place to heal due to limited blood flow,” she said, gesturing to her right wrist, which was wrapped in a black soft cast.

Drafted as the No. 7 pick, Reese’s season was impressive, averaging 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds, which is the highest rebound average in WNBA history. She also achieved a rookie record with 26 double-doubles, with her last performance being a notable 92-78 victory over Los Angeles, marking the end of her season.

Reese’s connection with Indiana rookie Caitlin Clark began two years ago during their face-off in the NCAA championship, in which Reese’s LSU team prevailed. Both players significantly contributed to elevating WNBA’s television ratings, attendance, and merchandise sales this season.

Reflecting on Reese’s injury, Clark expressed her sadness, particularly for someone she entered the league with. “You want to see her finish out this year,” Clark said. “She’s had a historic year and accomplished incredible things. Her work ethic is probably the best in the league. She has had an outstanding season, and it’s truly devastating to see a player go down with an injury.”

Despite the setback, Reese plans to stay active during her recovery. “So in the meantime, I will be in my hard cast for four weeks. During that time, I’ll focus on lifting, running, conditioning, shooting with my off hand, dribbling with my off hand, and focusing on my nutrition,” she shared. “I’ll still be modeling, hosting my podcast, and supporting my teammates from the bench. I believe we can still make the playoffs.”

Reese also addressed unfounded rumors on social media suggesting she was pregnant, which she firmly dismissed. “That was never a thing… I don’t have a man to have kids; I don’t have a ring to have kids. I am 22 with no kids, and that’s not happening any time soon. I just want to clarify that, as I know people like to speculate for clicks.”

The current standings show Chicago in the final playoff position, just one game ahead of Atlanta. The Sky are set to face Washington on Wednesday.
