Angelina Jolie showcased the quiet luxury trend at the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado on Saturday. The renowned actress attended a screening of her latest film, “Maria,” which premiered at the Venice Film Festival just two days prior.
Jolie opted for an elegant cashmere ensemble by Brunello Cucinelli, featuring a plunging beige dress and a matching bolero. She complemented her outfit with large black sunglasses, diamond-encrusted hoop earrings, and nude leather Roger Vivier pumps adorned with buckle embellishments.
Directed by Pablo Larraín, the film “Maria” delves into the life of the iconic soprano Maria Callas, with Jolie portraying the singer during her final years in 1970s Paris.
Callas’ life was as dramatic as the operas she starred in. Her childhood revolved around rigorous training, which created a strained relationship with her mother. Love also eluded her, as her husband, Giovanni Battista Meneghini, stole her fortune during their divorce, and her long-time lover, Aristotle Onassis, left her for Jackie Kennedy.
Jolie embraced neutral hues at the Venice premiere of “Maria” as well. She wore a custom Tamara Ralph outfit, including an asymmetrical draped chiffon gown and a faux fur stole.
Last month, WWD announced that Jolie would be the first celebrity spokesmodel for Tom Ford Beauty.
In the new campaign imagery, Jolie dons the brand’s Runway Lip Color in the shade Scarlet Rouge. According to the actress, “It’s a beautiful color and texture. A good red lip needs little else. It’s worn with intention. That was part of the discussion.”
The trend of quiet luxury is proving its staying power in 2023, with brands like Dior, Carolina Herrera, and Miu Miu leading the charge. This minimalist aesthetic favors subtle yet high-end basics over ostentatious displays of wealth.
