Anime Episode 2 Recap: Full Spoilers Included

Rick and Morty: The Anime is back with new episodes throughout the summer. Episode 2 welcomed more characters, adding further twists to the story.

The anime series introduced a new facet of the multiverse in its debut episode, marking a unique entry by bringing Rick and Morty into the anime world, alongside new characters and plot developments. As it progresses, expect to see even more characters joining the fray.

The series began with Rick tinkering with space and time, eventually losing himself in the multiverse due to a new device. Morty, while immersed in a VR game, experienced several possible lives across different universes. The anime’s central mystery deepened, especially with the latest developments in Episode 2, titled “Fighting Mother.”

Episode 2 opens with Rick twisting through space, trying to return to his dimension. Summer, still tracking his movements, loses sight of him amid a sudden influx of other Ricks flying in different directions. Concerned, she contacts Space Beth for assistance. Chaos ensues when these Ricks, including a decoy Rick monitored by the Galactic Federation, converge in one location.

Suddenly, Rick is transported to a new dimension, which turns out to be another Rick’s domain. Confronting this Rick, he accuses him of creating the time entropy device from the first episode. Meanwhile, Space Beth infiltrates the Galactic Federation ship, confronting Tammy, now a half-robotic warrior.

The second Rick, distinguished by his longer hair, reveals that our Rick is C-137 and had stolen his life and family. Rick C-137 explains he saved his current Beth, but his own Beth and Diane had died. He expresses regret for not inventing the portal gun. They realize they’ll need to fight to resolve their differences.

Meanwhile, Morty is freed from the VR game. Summer calls Space Beth, who is embroiled in a battle with PhoenixTammy. Space Beth wins but spares PhoenixTammy, empathizing with her struggles. PhoenixTammy, surprised, escapes the exploding ship, hinting at future conflicts.

The two Ricks’ fight spans multiple dimensions, lacking a portal gun to navigate. Their clashing dimensional energies cause massive explosive disruptions, capturing the United States President’s attention. They fight once more, seeing it as the only way to traverse dimensions.

As their battle continues, the longer-haired Rick admits he didn’t create the time entropy device but had used it, resetting his world, according to Rick C-137. Various governments scramble to the energy source left behind by the Ricks but eventually give up when the energy fades.

Ultimately, their punches bring them back to their original dimension. Rick C-137 tells the other Rick to leave the family, as he will take care of them while seeking a way back to his own dimension.
