Conservative political commentator Ann Coulter faced significant backlash for her tweet calling Tim Walz’s son “weird.” The incident led to old clips from a 2016 roast resuscitating online and gaining viral traction.

Gus Walz, the 17-year-old son of Governor Tim Walz, went viral himself due to his emotional reaction to his father’s speech at the Democratic National Convention. Gus was seen standing and applauding with tears in his eyes, exclaiming proudly to the audience, “That’s my dad!”

In response to this heartwarming moment, Coulter tweeted, “Talk about weird,” utilizing Tim Walz’s favored term used to critique Donald Trump and JD Vance to instead target the Minnesota governor’s son.

The tweet was deleted after Coulter faced widespread criticism. “I took it down as soon as someone told me he’s [autistic], but it’s Democrats who go around calling everyone weird thinking it’s hilariously funny,” she explained. Gus Walz has been diagnosed with a non-verbal learning disorder, an anxiety disorder, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), according to Tim Walz and his wife, Gwen, in a recent interview with People magazine.

Despite removing the tweet, Coulter did not offer an outright apology. Instead, she stated in a follow-up post that she’s on vacation and did not feel compelled to retract her original statement. “Democrats are the ones who decided it’s fine to call people ‘weird,’” she asserted.

Following Coulter’s tweet, some social media users retaliated on Gus’ behalf, sharing clips from the infamous 2016 Comedy Central Roast of Rob Lowe. Although Coulter was invited to the event, it became an opportunity for comedians to lampoon her rather than Lowe.

Comedian Pete Davidson described her as a “racist c—” and compared her to a member of the Ku Klux Klan. British comic Jimmy Carr called Coulter “one of the most repugnant, hateful, hatchet-faced b—es alive,” adding that she looked like “a truck stop transvestite whore.”

David Spade quipped, “Ann Coulter hopes Republicans can hold onto the House so she can continue to haunt it,” while former NFL star Peyton Manning made a jab at her appearance, saying she “won the Kentucky Derby.”

Singer Jewel remarked, “As a feminist, I can’t support everything that is being said up here tonight. But as somebody that hates Ann Coulter, I’m delighted!”

During her turn at the mic, Coulter greeted the audience with the remark, “I want to welcome everybody to the Ann Coulter Roast With Rob Lowe.” However, her routine did not go as planned, with the crowd booing when she tried to promote her book, “In Trump We Trust: E Pluribus Awesome!”

After her set, Rob Lowe retorted, “Ann, after your set tonight, we’ve all witnessed the first bombing that you can’t blame on a Muslim.”

Coulter later confessed to The Hollywood Reporter that she was unaware of how she ended up on the show, saying it simply appeared on her book publicity schedule. When questioned about the harsh jokes aimed at her, Coulter commented, “I don’t notice ‘mean,’ but I do notice ‘jokes,’ and I didn’t hear many of those—until I took the mic!”
