Anya Taylor-Joy Dreams of Playing Elsa in Disney’s ‘Frozen’

If Disney decides to make a live-action version of Frozen, Anya Taylor-Joy wants to be first in line to audition for the role of Elsa.

The actress, known for her roles in The Queen’s Gambit and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, has expressed a keen interest in portraying the iconic Snow Queen.

In an interview with Vogue Hong Kong, Taylor-Joy revealed that she dreams of telling her siblings’ children that she is Elsa — complete with the ability to shoot ice from her hands.

According to a translation by Google, she said: “I really want to do a musical because I’m a little too obsessed with my current job. I love the challenge of completing impossible tasks. I think that’s incredibly motivating for me, so the idea of being able to sing, dance, and act at the same time is really exciting to me.”

She added, “I think Frozen is going to be great. Shooting ice cubes out of your hands can be a lot of fun. And, you’ll be the favorite at every kid’s birthday party. All my siblings have kids now, so I would love for them to be able to say, ‘My aunt is Elsa.’ That would be great!”

While a live-action adaptation of Frozen is a frequent topic of discussion among fans of the franchise, Disney has yet to confirm any plans to adapt the animated film. Currently, Disney is focused on the third and fourth movies in the animated series, with the third installment expected to be released in 2027.

Jennifer Lee showcased artwork from Frozen III at the D23 event last month. “It captures the scene of Anna and Elsa…everyone at Disney animation is excited to be back in this world,” she mentioned.

In the animated versions, Elsa is voiced by Idina Menzel.
