Apple TV+ Unveils Trailer for New Series by Ted Lasso Executive Producer

Producer and writer Bill Lawrence is enjoying an impressive run with Apple TV+ comedies. The creator of Scrubs first struck gold with Ted Lasso in 2020, an Emmy-winning series he co-created with Jason Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt, and Joe Kelly. Lawrence followed this success with the Emmy-nominated Shrinking, developed alongside Brett Goldstein and star Jason Segel. Now, Lawrence is set to continue his streak with a new series titled Bad Monkey.

Based on the novel by Carl Hiaasen, Bad Monkey stars Vince Vaughn as a former police officer turned health inspector. He finds himself entangled in a bizarre case involving a severed human arm. Recently, Apple unveiled the first official trailer for Bad Monkey.

The series, marking its debut on August 14th, will release its first two episodes simultaneously on Apple TV+. The remaining episodes of the 10-episode season will follow on a weekly basis. Vaughn leads an impressive cast, including Jodie Turner-Smith, Rob Delaney, John Ortiz, Zach Braff, Michelle Monaghan, Alex Moffat, and Scott Glenn, among others.

In addition to his acting role, Vaughn also serves as an executive producer alongside Lawrence. Jeff Ingold, Matt Tarses, Marcos Siega, and Liza Katzer are also executive producers. Lawrence takes on the role of showrunner for Bad Monkey.

Apple provided an official synopsis for Bad Monkey: “Based on Carl Hiaasen’s New York Times bestselling novel and enduring cult favorite, Bad Monkey tells the story of Andrew Yancy (Vaughn), who has been ousted from the Miami Police Department and is currently working as a health inspector in the Keys. After stumbling upon a case that starts with a human arm discovered by tourists, he realizes that proving it’s a murder could get him reinstated. However, he must navigate through a cast of eccentric Floridian characters and one troublesome monkey.”

The diverse ensemble cast features notable actors like L. Scott Caldwell, Rob Delaney, and Meredith Hagner. Others include Natalie Martinez, Alex Moffat, Ronald Peet, and Jodie Turner-Smith. There are also special guest appearances by John Ortiz, Zach Braff, Ashley Nicole Black, and Scott Glenn, with Charlotte Lawrence making her television debut.

With a stellar lineup of talent both in front of and behind the camera, Bad Monkey is shaping up to be another notable addition to Bill Lawrence’s catalog of successful TV comedies. Fans of Carl Hiaasen’s novel and previous works by Lawrence will likely find much to enjoy in this new series.
