Are We Done with Our Drama?

Miranda Lambert’s concerts are a place for dancing and drinking, not fighting. During her headlining set at Montana’s Under the Big Sky Festival over the weekend, Lambert paused her performance to address fans who seemed to be in a scuffle and not paying attention.

“I can see your head is not turned the right way, which is this way,” she pointed to herself, making it clear that she wanted their attention on her. “If you came to visit, you can do it somewhere else. If you came to sing some country music, drink some beer, and raise some hell, we’re doing that tonight.”

She then questioned the crowd, “Are we clear? Are we done with our drama yet?” Lambert emphasized, “Fighting is not OK. And it’s always the girls. We get crazy! Cheers, everybody. I’m gonna wait it out.”

Lambert was performing at the Montana festival, sharing the spotlight with Billy Strings and Turnpike Troubadours. Other acts included Brothers Osborne, Mt. Joy, Tanya Tooker, and Sierra Ferrell.

Lambert seems to have a knack for spotting fights in her audience. In late June, she paused another show while performing her ballad, “Tin Man,” to address the situation. “Are y’all fightin’? During this song? Because I will come down there and you don’t want that. We’re not doing that today,” she asserted. “It’s always the girls, we always get riled up and start punching each other. Dear police, can we just go ahead and remove them, that’d be great. Thank you very much.”

A few days later, Lambert took to Instagram to humorously share her thoughts on when it’s acceptable for fans to fight at her shows. “If you want to fight at my shows, I’m all about it. Give ’em hell,” she posted on July 2. “I’ve got five songs for you: ‘Fastest Girl in Town,’ ‘Kerosene,’ ‘Little Red Wagon,’ ‘Wranglers,’ ‘Gun Powder & Lead.’ Don’t do it during ‘Tin Man.’ That’s not the time.”

She elaborated, “I know you can hear the shit-talking ’cause it’s a ballad, but that’s not the time. So pick your times.”

In addition to her concert performances, Lambert’s music continues to make waves. Her song “Ain’t in Kansas Anymore” is set to feature in the upcoming film “Twisters.” This follows the release of her singles “Dammit Randy” and “Wranglers,” which dropped in June and May, respectively. Her latest album, “Palomino,” arrived in 2022.

Lambert’s playful yet firm approach to handling concert disruptions keeps her audiences engaged and ensures that everyone enjoys the show. Her ability to balance humor and authority underscores her seasoned experience in the music industry.
