Aubrey Plaza Shines at WNBA All-Star Game

It wasn’t a WNBA athlete who stole the show during the All-Star game but Parks and Recreation actor Aubrey Plaza, who appeared in crutches, easily becoming the evening’s highlight.

According to AZ Central, Plaza injured herself while playing a game of knockout, resulting in a torn ACL.

The actress, widely recognized for her role as April Ludgate on Parks and Recreation, has also featured in films such as Funny People (2009), Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010), and Life After Beth (2014).

And now, she’s the unofficial star of the WNBA All-Star game.

Despite her injury, Plaza attended the All-Star game, showcasing her fandom for the WNBA. She sat courtside next to Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe, crutches in her left hand and a drink in her right. Throughout the game, Bird helped to adjust an ice pack for her injury.

Plaza appeared to be in good spirits. This was evident during the fourth quarter when team WNBA coach Cheryl Miller approached her to inquire about her crutches, and Plaza responded with a thumbs-up.

The incident has become the most talked-about story from the game. Formerly known as Twitter, X is buzzing with reactions.

“My favorite story from WNBA All-Star Weekend is definitely Aubrey Plaza tearing her ACL during a game of Knockout in the new Mercury practice facility, then sitting courtside next to Sue Bird & Megan Rapinoe, getting sloshed,” one person posted.

“Sue Bird helping Aubrey Plaza with her ice pack/crutches at the WNBA All-Star Game is the most random but fantastic image of the weekend,” another user wrote.

The Seattle Storm even posted, “The GOAT lending a helping hand to Aubrey Plaza.”

Taking it all in stride, Plaza shared several photos on Instagram captioned, “@wnba ALL STAR WEEKEND. How it started…how it went…Nothing can stop us! Thank you @wnba for hosting such an amazing weekend and taking such good care of me and my busted knee. Such a great game. See you in Paris (no).”

Other celebrities and sports stars also attended the WNBA All-Star game, including NFL stars, rappers, actors, and WNBA alums.

Kobe Bryant’s family also made an appearance, with Vanessa Bryant and daughters Natalia, Bianka, and Capri present.

“I’m a Kobe person. Everybody knows that,” said Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark. “Obviously, what Vanessa has done, what his family has done to continue his legacy…it’s pretty incredible.”

Other notable attendees included Sophi Cunningham (Phenix Mercury), Sheryl Swoopes (the first WNBA player to be signed), Ty Dolla Sign, Jason Sudeikis, Fabolous, Sam Jay, Marvin Harrison Jr., Sue Bird, and many others.

Team WNBA clinched a 117-109 victory that night.

Aubrey Plaza’s foray into the WNBA All-Star game might just prove she could easily take on the role of the league’s opening entertainment if she ever wished.
