August Alsina Discusses Loving Another Man: ‘Fluent In Love When It Speaks’

After August Alsina introduced the world to a man named Zu, describing him as someone who “defies all the constructs that one would say love is supposed to be or look like,” the singer appeared more at peace than ever. Despite their seemingly strong bond, Alsina is uninterested in labeling his sexuality.

Alsina recently joined the Counsel Culture show with Nick Cannon, Mike Dow, Ish Major, and Feenix Ireton. During the episode, the panel discussed relationships and societal norms. The “No Love” singer revealed that he does not feel the need to identify his sexuality strictly. He elaborated, saying he has encountered a variety of people and experiences, leading him to believe that love is far more complex than commonly understood.

“To be honest with you, bro, it’s not even me that’s opening my heart,” Alsina responded when asked about loving another man. “It’s that power that’s higher than myself. I always say that the greatest gift God could have ever given me was exposure. To expose me to so many different kinds of people, places, things,” he stated.

You may recall that when Alsina introduced Zu, he mentioned learning about healing and love from him. He emphasized his desire to honor Zu and disregard societal constructs. On the Counsel Culture show, the 31-year-old acknowledged the pressure to label his sexuality while asserting that love has more depth than such labels.

“So it’s like, when people want you to define yourself as whether you’re gay, straight, bisexual, or whatever it is you was just talking about, love is much more complex than that and has much more depth. So for me, I’m just the kind of person that, because love is a language, I’m fluent in love when it speaks to me.”

Nick Cannon chimed in, questioning why society feels the need to label someone’s sexuality or people with children from different partners. Alsina advised that people’s comments shouldn’t affect them because not everyone has been “exposed to the same things.”

Currently, Alsina and Zu seem to be in a good place. They recently posted photos of themselves together on a boat and even promote a cologne. Alsina became the legal guardian of his three nieces in 2018, following the deaths of their parents. It is unclear if Zu has met the nieces, whom Alsina affectionately calls his “naughters.”

The singer has come a long way since the 2020 “entanglement” drama involving Will and Jada Smith, opting to keep his new relationship relatively private. Although he hasn’t released new music since 2023, he and his family appear to be thriving.
