Awards gala for Jan. 6 riot defendants at Trump’s club is postponed

On September 4, an “awards gala” fundraiser intended for defendants jailed in connection with the January 6 U.S. Capitol riot has been postponed. The event was set to take place at former President Donald Trump’s golf club in New Jersey.

This event, rebranded as the “Justice For All Gala,” was originally set to occur at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster. It was organized by the pro-Trump political action committee “New Gen 47” and the non-profit organization “Vote Your Vision,” which is a subsidiary of “The America Project.”

No specific reason for the delay was provided beside “scheduling conflicts of invited guest speakers,” according to event organizer L.J. Fino. He also indicated that the event is now intended to be rescheduled for after the upcoming November elections.

Initially known as the “J6 Awards Gala,” the event’s original date has been officially marked as “postponed,” with details regarding the new time and location yet to be announced on the event website.

Text messages obtained by The New York Times revealed that organizers cited “multiple issues outside of our control,” particularly highlighting safety concerns for both attendees and staff as additional reasons for the change in plans.

General admission tickets for the gala were priced starting at $1,500 per person, with single VIP tickets available for $2,500. A “platinum table” could be purchased for $50,000, with all donations listed as tax deductible. Although Trump was listed among the invited guests, he was not expected to personally attend the gala.

The fundraiser aimed to generate over $1 million, with proceeds earmarked to assist with the legal fees of those charged in connection with the Capitol riot.

According to information shared on The America Project’s website, the event was intended to be a “crucial fundraiser” providing “much-needed assistance” to over 1,200 Jan. 6 defendants who currently face significant legal challenges.

Among the invited guests associated with the January 6 incident were prominent figures such as former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani. Giuliani has recently faced indictments in Georgia concerning efforts to overturn Trump’s loss in the 2020 presidential election within the state. Other notable attendees included MAGA influencer Anthony Raimondi and former Trump administration official Peter Navarro, who recently completed a four-month jail sentence for contempt of Congress.

The postponement of this high-profile event highlights ongoing tensions surrounding the January 6 Capitol riot and the legal implications facing its participants. As the situation develops, further information about rescheduling will likely be closely watched by both supporters and critics of the ongoing narratives surrounding this controversial incident.
