‘Bachelorette’ Finale: Jenn Tran’s Final Choice and What Went Wrong

Is Jenn Tran engaged? Or is she single?

The “Bachelorette” finale finally provided answers nearly two months after her season premiered, revealing a shocking conclusion that few could have anticipated.

Jenn Tran, the franchise’s first Asian American lead, has kept fans on the edge of their seats. Viewers have eagerly awaited explanations, especially about why Jenn told one of her final suitors, “I can’t let you propose to me.” The 26-year-old aspiring physician assistant eventually called things off with Marcus Shoberg, 32, citing his reluctance to express love for her due to “not giving you what you need.”

With Marcus out of the picture, the path seemed clear for Jenn to seal her happy ending with 28-year-old Devin Strader. She was ready to take the initiative and propose to the freight company owner from Houston. But then, everything changed.

Host Jesse Palmer interrupted the show during its live airing to reveal that things were not as they appeared.

A tearful Jenn bravely took the stage to explain that, although she did get engaged to Devin in Hawaii, their relationship had since ended. Devin ended their engagement in a brief, 15-minute phone call in August while the season was still airing.

“He basically said that he didn’t love me anymore and didn’t feel the same way,” Jenn recounted, adding that Devin denied ever having been in love. She noted that despite her pleas, Devin refused to go to couples’ counseling and “didn’t want to fight for the relationship anymore.”

As the audience provided a mix of applause and boos, Devin joined Jenn on stage to share his perspective: “I failed you, but everything I felt for you was real.” He admitted he had “lots of doubts” throughout their two-month engagement but claimed to have been honest with Jenn all along. When Jenn challenged this, Devin conceded, “I was regretfully late on letting you know.”

Throughout the 10-episode season, Jenn had narrowed down her original 25 suitors to just two finalists: Marcus and Devin. Both men had met Jenn’s family, who expressed their concerns. Jenn’s mother, Trinh, her aunt Lylan, and her brother James grilled Marcus and Devin. Trinh was skeptical about her daughter having enough time to fall in love and get engaged, and James was “not too happy,” as he revealed during the live broadcast, hinting to fans that Jenn’s journey did not have a fairy-tale ending.

Adding to the tense atmosphere, finalists Jeremy Simon and Jonathon Johnson Soliz were also in the studio audience to show their support.

For those eager to embark on yet another bachelorette’s romantic journey, there is good news. Joan Vassos’ inaugural “Golden Bachelorette” season premieres on September 18. Fans can also look forward to seeing Grant Ellis, whom Jenn sent home in Episode 6, as he prepares to film his upcoming “Bachelor” season in the coming months.
