‘Bachelorette’ Jenn Tran Spills Secrets in Nick Viall Interview

Warning: Spoilers from the first four episodes of “The Bachelorette” Season 21 ahead.

Thursday’s episode of “The Viall Files” featured an intriguing discussion between Wisconsin natives and Bachelor Nation personalities Nick Viall and current “Bachelorette” Jenn Tran. Viall is a Wisconsin native and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee graduate, while Tran is a UW-Madison alum.

Viall described this week’s “Bachelorette” episode as perhaps “the most unhinged” he remembers, setting a lively tone for the conversation. Joined by “Viall Files” co-hosts Natalie Joy (Nick’s wife) and Ciara Robinson, the discussion covered various aspects of Tran’s experience on the show.

Tran opened up about the hardest moments to watch back from the season, including a solo date with Sam M. at the Sky Tower in New Zealand. Despite her fear of heights, Sam M. pressured her into doing the Skyjump, leaving her in tears. Tran admitted she wished she had expressed her discomfort more openly instead of trying to put on a brave face.

Nick Viall supported Tran, noting that her discomfort was apparent to viewers even if Sam M. failed to pick up on it. Tran discussed how Sam M. often missed her emotional cues, which Viall found alarming. She also pointed out the disparity in how Sam M. treated her versus some of the other contestants, particularly Devin.

Speaking of Devin, Tran revealed that he was her strongest connection four episodes into the season. Their one-on-one date, which involved experiencing Māori culture and bonding over their similar upbringings, solidified their emotional connection. Tran highlighted how their date was filled with meaningful conversations and shared experiences, which didn’t entirely make it to the final cut of the episode.

Viall and his co-hosts expressed their opinions on the men competing for Tran’s heart. Viall admitted that he struggled to see any strong connections worth Tran’s time, with the exception of a few contestants like Jonathon and Devin. Natalie added that she had some reservations about Thomas, another contestant.

Tran’s ex, Matt, made a surprising appearance on the show, flying all the way to New Zealand to confess his love for her. Tran shared her initial shock and disbelief upon seeing him. Despite their past friendly interactions and planned travels, Tran clarified that they had never been in love, as Matt had claimed during the show. Viall speculated that Matt’s grand gesture might have had performative elements, though he acknowledged parts of his actions seemed genuine.

Tran also spoke about her previous toxic relationship from two years ago, explaining that the breakup was primarily driven by her ex’s reluctance to introduce her to his family. Although difficult, she ultimately felt it was for the best.

During the podcast, Viall played a unique game with Tran, asking her to imagine what her engaged life would look like with various contestants:

  • Marcus: An adventurous life filled with activities like skydiving and rock climbing in Boston.
  • Devin: A laughter-filled life, possibly in California, where Devin’s father resides.
  • Jonathon: Settled in San Diego, playing lacrosse together and teaching their kids the sport.
  • Spencer: Living in Texas surrounded by dogs, reflecting his profession as a pet portrait entrepreneur.
  • Matt: Residing in Boston, enjoying beach outings and traveling to his properties in New Hampshire and Florida.

Viall also asked Tran to assign superlatives to contestants:

  • Most empathetic: Jonathon
  • Shortest temper: Sam M.
  • Smartest: Devin
  • Funniest: Jeremy

Regarding her post-show life, Tran expressed satisfaction with how things turned out. She plans to return to physician assistant school in January and pursue a career as an emergency room PA. Tran intends to maintain a “normal” life while exploring social media as a side hustle.
