Bad Monkey Episode 4, titled “Nothing’s Wrong With It, I Just Don’t Need It Anymore,” serves as a pivotal flashback chapter in the series, shedding light on what happened to Yancy (Vince Vaughn) and Nick/Christopher (Rob Delaney). This episode takes the viewers through Yancy’s life in the Miami PD and his subsequent move to the Keys. It also delves into Nick’s transformation from a mediocre con artist to a cold-blooded murderer, highlighting Eve’s (Meredith Hagner) influential role in this change.

The episode’s climax is quite revealing. Nick and Israel, or Izzy (Zach Braff), were already engaged in a medical insurance scam when Nick met Eve, a struggling actress-turned-waitress. Eve’s ambitions make her a perfect partner in Nick’s schemes. Their relationship quickly turns into a marriage, and it isn’t long before Eve learns about Nick’s scams, eventually becoming an active participant.

As investigations into their fraudulent activities intensify, Eve masterminds a plan to fake Nick’s death by convincing him to cut off his own arm. She believes this will throw the authorities off their trail. The plan nearly succeeds until Yancy gets involved. At this point, Yancy is still a part of Miami PD and has personal disputes with the corrupt officer Mendez. His encounter with Rogelio and his subsequent move to the Keys sets the stage for the unfolding saga of Nick and Eve.

An old woman’s recognition of Yancy from a photo, following her encounter with him outside Izzy’s home, gives Mendez potential to consider Yancy a suspect. Meanwhile, Yancy and Rosa (Natalie Martinez) become intimate, a development portrayed in an unusually humorous setting — a morgue. The scene fittingly matches the show’s tone.

Towards the episode’s end, Yancy pieces together the entire puzzle, realizing that Nick is actually Christopher. Just as he leaves a message for Rosa with his discovery, Nick ambushes him, knocking him out.

In a ruthless move, Eve persuades Nick to kill Phinney and Izzy to eliminate any risks. Izzy, who had surgically operated on Nick and handed Phinney the arm, spirals into guilt and paranoia. Before Yancy can reach out to him, Nick arrives at Izzy’s doorstep. Fully understanding the gravity of the situation, Izzy accepts his fate as Nick shoots him.

The episode also sheds light on the subplot concerning the disappearance of meteorologist Heather. Viewers learn that Eve murdered Heather after she overheard their incriminating conversation. Eve’s willingness to kill displayed her commitment to avoiding any loose ends.

Amidst a television landscape filled with dragon-riding villains, sith lords, and megalomaniacs, Eve stands out as a uniquely chilling antagonist. She even suggests eliminating Caitlin similarly to Izzy and Phinney. Although Nick rejects the idea, Eve quickly backtracks, manipulating Nick into believing he misunderstood her intentions. Sadly, Nick proves gullible, and Eve’s manipulations continue to unfold.
