Batman and Catwoman Finally Get Their Deserved Steamy Love Story

Amazon Prime

Batman: Caped Crusader is invigorating television. Today, superhero content can feel overwhelming, especially with the MCU’s stronghold on pop culture. Marvel’s intricate multiverses and timelines make viewers feel like they need to study before watching. However, Caped Crusader brings back tightly plotted, character-driven tales that are equally accessible to both die-hard Batman fans and newcomers.

The standout element of Caped Crusader is Episode 3, “Kiss of the Catwoman,” which isn’t afraid to get steamy.

Warning: Some spoilers ahead.

Written by Adamma and Adanne Ebo (who directed Honk For Jesus, Save Your Soul), the episode dives into the electric and budding romance between Batman, aka Bruce Wayne (voiced by Hamish Patel), and Catwoman, aka Selina Kyle (voiced by Christina Ricci).

It’s not often that superhero narratives mix with romance. While it’s prevalent in comics, on-screen portrayals have often missed this mark, especially in the MCU. In Marvel films, romance tends to be comedic relief, particularly in movies like Deadpool & Wolverine, which are full of innuendo but shy away from genuine romantic scenes.

Batman and Catwoman have always had a romantic entanglement. In Matt Reeves’ The Batman, the two share a passionate kiss but then separate. In The Dark Knight Rises, they end up together. This relationship is explored through countless comic issues and series. “Kiss of the Catwoman” slowly and tantalizingly builds their desire for each other, teasing more to come in future seasons.

The episode kicks off with Bruce meeting Selina at a gala. Their chemistry is immediate, but Bruce’s outburst—punching someone over an inappropriate comment—halts their flirtation. Consequently, Gotham City’s most eligible bachelor ends up in mandatory therapy sessions as an alternative to harsher punishment.

Dr. Quinzel (voiced by Jamie Chung) questions his superficial relationships with women: “Is there ever love there, or even lust?” Bruce replies coyly, “I’m just playing the field, Doc.” Yet, Selina remains on his mind.

One of the episode’s most intense scenes has Bruce and Selina in separate locations. Bruce, boxing shirtless in skimpy brown shorts, is visibly affected by his growing desire for Selina. A mention of her name on TV stops him in his tracks, and he punches the bag harder, attempting to shake off the sexual tension.

This episode illustrates that you don’t need explicit sexual activity to convey strong sexual chemistry. “Kiss of the Catwoman” is packed with flirtation and longing, making it incredibly sexy.

On Selina’s side, she can’t stop rescuing stray cats from the streets. It’s not just a detail highlighting her love for felines—it mirrors her attraction to Bruce/Batman, both of whom are likened to strays longing for connection. Bruce’s orphaned past and solitary vigilante life resonate deeply with her.

Even her Catmobile, a counterpart to his Batmobile, underscores her desire for both Bruce and Batman. Their interactions suggest they enjoy their mutual game of “will-they-won’t-they,” knowing more than they let on about each other’s identities.

When Batman saves Catwoman from a fall, their chemistry peaks. As they rappel down a skyscraper, she kisses him, and they continue the embrace even after touching the ground. Batman eventually pulls away, and Catwoman uses electrocuted brass knuckles to escape, adding intrigue to their relationship.

Though the episode ends with Selina behind bars, the volatile world of superheroes guarantees she won’t stay there long. The promise of their deepening relationship in Season 2 of Caped Crusader adds excitement for what’s to come.
