‘Baywatch’ Producers Told Carmen Electra She Was ‘Overweight’

The new Hulu documentary After Baywatch has reignited interest in the iconic lifeguard drama. One key figure featured in the documentary is Carmen Electra, who starred as Lani McKenzie in the show’s eighth season. Carmen has been busy promoting the documentary and recently made a startling revelation about her time on Baywatch.

During an interview at the premiere of After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun, Carmen shared some behind-the-scenes experiences. She revealed that producers often pressured her to lose weight. “They’d come up to you and say, ‘You need to lose some pounds,’” Carmen admitted. “I panicked. It made me so insecure and uncomfortable.”

Despite these negative moments, Carmen looks back on her season with some positivity. She enjoyed challenging herself with activities like tandem surfing, which she recalled as one of her “proudest moments” on the water. Even now, fans approach her with fond memories of her character. Carmen noted, “I still run in slow motion for people; it’s become this worldwide thing. I’m game. I love it. I teach people how to do it … it’s fun.”

The documentary sheds light on the stringent appearance demands that affected both male and female cast members. Like Carmen, other actors on the show also faced intense scrutiny over their physical appearance.

Billy Warlock, who portrayed Eddie Kramer, described a culture where producers constantly evaluated the cast’s looks. “They had to make sure the women’s breasts looked great and the men’s abs were defined. If anyone slipped up, they could be gone. Everybody was disposable,” Billy recounted in the documentary.

Similarly, Nicole Eggert expressed regret over getting breast implants for the show, emphasizing the unrealistic body standards. Traci Bingham stated, “The whole look was huge boobs, the bigger the better.” To meet these demands, Jeremy Jackson even hired a personal trainer when told to buff up.

Not everyone conformed to these pressures, though. Alexandra Paul stood her ground, saying, “No matter what I do, I’m never gonna do that sexy thing as well as the other actresses. So I said I’m gonna be more me.”

Given the revelations in the documentary, it’s not surprising that Carmen Electra faced pressure to lose weight. The stories from the cast highlight the often-unseen and unrealistic standards imposed on them. These experiences shed new light on the glamorous facade of Baywatch, showcasing the challenges and insecurities the actors dealt with behind the scenes.
