Broadcaster Lauren Laverne has revealed that she is currently in the hospital following a cancer diagnosis. The Desert Island Discs host, aged 46, shared her health update through an Instagram post on Wednesday, affirming that she is expected to make a “full recovery.”

In a heartfelt message accompanying a selfie, Laverne stated: “Right then, some personal news… I recently had a cancer diagnosis. It was (thank God) caught early and unexpectedly during a screening test, and I am expected to make a full recovery.”

The BBC presenter expressed her gratitude to the medical teams caring for her, praising them for their “incredible skill and kindness” during her treatment. She also extended her thanks to her family and friends, acknowledging their “extraordinary” support every step of the way. “I am so very grateful and love you so much,” she added.

In her post, Laverne also thanked her colleagues at various BBC programs, including BBC 6 Music, The One Show, and Desert Island Discs, for their understanding and support during this challenging time. She mentioned: “And of course thank you to my colleagues – including those at @itg_ltd, @bbc6music, @bbctheoneshow and #DesertIslandDiscs for their support – and for giving me the time off that I need to get better.”

Laverne used the platform to encourage others to prioritize their health and get checked out if they are avoiding appointments or tests. She remarked: “Half of us will get cancer at some point, and if you do, finding out asap is everything. It’s usually my job to bring the good vibes on air but any you have to spare are very much welcome here. Sending loads of love to anyone in a similar boat, or who has made it back to shore.”

Many friends and celebrities took to social media to offer their support to Laverne. Fellow presenter Myleene Klass commented: “You are incredible and have been every step of the way. Love you Lala x”

Sports broadcaster Gabby Logan offered her love and positive wishes, and actress Vicky McClure sent her “love and speedy healing.” BBC broadcasters Clara Amfo and Dermot O’Leary, actor Richard E Grant, and former Match Of The Day presenter Ian Wright all posted heart emojis.

Feminist writer Caitlin Moran shared her encouragement, writing: “Loz, we know you’re going to be a queen through this like you are a queen through everything. But I do want to boot cancer in the nuts. LOVE YOU FOREVER xxxx.”

Laverne stepped in for Scottish broadcaster Kirsty Young as the host of BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs in 2018, after Young had to leave due to health issues. She then permanently took over the role, interviewing Hollywood stars like Cate Blanchett and Stanley Tucci over the years.

In addition to her role at Desert Island Discs, Laverne hosts the BBC Radio 6 Music breakfast show. She is also known for her work on various TV programs, including Channel 4’s 10 O’Clock Live.

Following the announcement of Laverne’s diagnosis on her breakfast show, guest presenter Deb Grant expressed the team’s support: “I just wanted to say on behalf of everyone here at 6 Music we’re thinking of you, we hope you’ll be back with us very soon… we love you Lauren.” Grant then played “We Can Work It Out,” noting it as one of Laverne’s favorite tracks.
