Beckham and Prince William Headline Reactions to England’s Euro 2024 Win

Celebrities have swiftly taken to social media to celebrate England’s dramatic advancement to the Euro 2024 final. Ollie Watkins’ 90th-minute goal secured a 2-1 victory over the Netherlands, setting up a showdown against Spain on Sunday.

The match in Dortmund started with a bang, as Xavi Simons capitalized on a mistake by Declan Rice, launching a stunning long-range strike. England quickly responded when Harry Kane was fouled by Denzel Dumfries in the penalty area. As the game neared extra time, substitute Watkins, having replaced Kane, scored from a tight angle, propelling Gareth Southgate’s team into the final.

Former England captain David Beckham expressed his admiration on Instagram Stories, exclaiming, “Wow, team England.” He gave a special mention to Watkins, noting, “That’s why they call it a TEAM. What a moment. Well done Ollie.”

TV actor Ross Kemp, famed for his role as Grant Mitchell in EastEnders, amused fans with footage of his enthusiastic celebration of Watkins’ goal. “Oh Ollie Watkins, you did it,” he cheered. “We knew those changes would work. Gareth Southgate, genius, genius, genius,” he added.

Britain’s newly appointed prime minister, Keir Starmer, shared that he took a break from his discussions with US president Joe Biden at the White House to catch Harry Kane’s penalty. “Picked the right moment to pop out from NATO meetings and check the score,” Starmer posted on Instagram, along with a video of him watching the game. He later added, “What a game @England and what a winner. Berlin, here we come!”

Celebrations

Prince William, who previously went viral for his theatrical reaction to England winning their Euro 2024 quarter-final match against Switzerland last week, also shared his thoughts on the Three Lions reaching the final. On the Instagram account he shares with Kate, he posted, “What a beauty, Ollie! Congratulations England! #EURO2024 Finalists W.”

Meanwhile, broadcaster Piers Morgan addressed the criticism that had been directed toward England manager Gareth Southgate by fans before this win. “Chuffed for Southgate,” he remarked. “We’ve all doubted him during this tournament, but he’s got us to another final, and I think we’re going to win on Sunday.” He continued, “Brilliant win. Brilliant goal. Brilliant performance. Brilliant management. Congrats to England, and especially Ollie Watkins & Gareth Southgate. One game from immortality, lads – go bring it home.”
