Belichick Aims to Return to Coaching in 2025

Bill Belichick, despite establishing a significant presence in the media world, including creating an “Instaface” account, remains a coach at heart. His passion for football is unmistakable, and those who know him well suggest that he hopes to return to coaching in 2025, but only under the right circumstances with desirable job opportunities.

Sources indicate that when Belichick does decide to return to the sidelines, he will be selective. This past offseason, there were several chances for him to join various coaching staffs as a defensive coordinator or in a senior assistant role. Notably, the San Francisco 49ers considered him for their vacant defensive coordinator position, as confirmed by head coach Kyle Shanahan earlier this summer. The Los Angeles Rams, following the departure of Raheem Morris to become head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, also had Belichick on their radar.

Although the Rams showed interest in securing his expertise, Belichick opted to pursue different opportunities this season. As a result, for the first time in nearly 25 years, he will not be present on the Patriots’ sideline when New England opens its season against the Bengals in Cincinnati.

Instead of coaching, Belichick will prepare for his appearance on the “ManningCast” on Monday night, among other media engagements. In addition, he is working as a strategic advisor for the 33rd Team, a media and technology firm focused on football analytics. Belichick will feature regularly on “The Pat McAfee Show,” contribute to a weekly Friday show with Peyton Manning analyzing upcoming Monday Night Football matchups, and serve as an analyst on “Inside the NFL.” Furthermore, he is set to launch his own football show on YouTube TV.

While some speculate that he might join other platforms, such as Threads, after making his foray into Instagram last week, it seems unlikely. Belichick, who has often been reserved in his media interactions, is finding himself as a notable figure in this landscape.

However, this media venture could be temporary, as Belichick still holds the desire to return to head coaching in 2025, given the right opportunity arises. By engaging in these media projects, he aims to stay closely connected to the league, monitor player developments, and remain ready to return to coaching when the right call comes.

Belichick parted ways with the Patriots following the 2023 season, concluding a remarkable 24-year tenure with the franchise. During this period, he led the team to six Super Bowl victories, a record that solidifies his legacy in the NFL. With a total of 296 wins (including playoffs), he ranks second for most victories with a single franchise, just behind George Halas of the Chicago Bears, who has 324. Moreover, Belichick’s overall coaching record stands at 333 wins (including playoffs), placing him second in all-time coaching victories, trailing Don Shula who amassed 347 wins.

His contributions were acknowledged when he was nominated for a Sports Emmy Award for Outstanding Studio Analyst for his work on the 2019 NFL Films series “NFL 100 All-Time Team,” which aired on the NFL Network. This recognition marks another milestone in his already illustrious career.
