Ben Affleck Thriller Set for Spring 2025 Release by Amazon MGM Studios

EXCLUSIVE: Amazon MGM Studios has announced that “The Accountant 2” will debut in theaters on April 25, 2025. Prior to this announcement, there were no public release details about the sequel starring Ben Affleck and directed by Gavin O’Connor.

This chosen release date has been fruitful for Amazon MGM previously. For instance, the Luca Guadagnino directed, Zendaya starring “Challengers” opened with $15 million, ultimately grossing $50.1 million in the U.S. and $94.2 million worldwide.

As it stands, “The Accountant 2” appears to be the only major studio release set for April 25 next year, strategically positioned just before Marvel Studios unleashes “Thunderbolts” on May 2.

Briefly summarizing “The Accountant 2”: Treasury Agent Marybeth Medina (played by Cynthia Addai-Robinson) seeks out Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) to help solve the murder of her former boss. With assistance from his estranged yet formidable brother Brax (Jon Bernthal), Chris uses his exceptional intellect and unconventional methods to uncover the truth. However, their journey attracts the attention of some of the world’s most dangerous killers, all determined to thwart their mission.

The screenplay for “The Accountant 2” was penned by Bill Dubuque, who also wrote the first movie. The film will feature an impressive cast that includes Oscar winner J.K. Simmons, Daniella Pineda, Allison Robertson, Robert Morgan, and Grant Harvey.

“The Accountant,” released in 2016 by Warner Bros, earned $155 million globally and was the top-rented digital film of 2017. Its popularity continues, with the film recently topping Netflix’s Global Top 10 Movies chart.

For the sequel, Artists Equity secured the rights from Warner Bros and partnered with Amazon MGM Studios. The production is handled by Artists Equity in collaboration with 51 Entertainment, with Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Lynette Howell Taylor, and Mark Williams as producers.
