Ben Affleck’s Daughter Violet Urges Mask Mandates in L.A. Hospitals

Violet Affleck, the daughter of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, has become an advocate for public health by calling for mandatory masks in Los Angeles hospitals to tackle the long COVID crisis. Despite the lifting of many COVID-19 restrictions, Violet continues to wear a face mask in public, drawing attention and sparking discussions about ongoing health measures.

During a public representation to the L.A. County Board of Supervisors, the 18-year-old shared that she had experienced a long-COVID-like condition back in 2019. This personal history fueled her advocacy for making masks and other protective measures available in government facilities. Violet called for the use of powerful “far-UVC light” with germicidal properties in these settings.

She strongly urged the governing authorities to resist any “mask bans,” emphasizing the importance of continued safety measures. Speaking during the public comments section, where residents voice their concerns directly to the board, Violet introduced herself as an engaged citizen and a first-time voter.

“Hi, Violet Affleck, Los Angeles resident, first-time voter, I’m 18,” she began. She then elaborated on her stance: “One in 10 infections leads to long COVID, which is a devastating neurological and cardiovascular illness that can take away people’s ability to work, see, move, and even think. To confront the long COVID crisis, I demand mask availability, air filtration, and far-UVC lights in government facilities, including jails and detention centers, and mask mandates in county medical facilities.”

Violet, who is reportedly heading to Yale University after her high school graduation in May, shared her personal experience of dealing with a post-viral condition in 2019. “I’m OK now, but I saw firsthand that medicine does not always have answers to the consequences of even minor viruses,” she stated.

She warned that long COVID could worsen issues like homelessness and disproportionately affect vulnerable groups including communities of color, disabled people, elderly people, trans people, women, and public-facing essential workers.

The young advocate, who is the eldest of Garner and Ben Affleck’s three children, has been consistently seen wearing a mask, even when attending public events like a Broadway show earlier this year. Her consistent use of the mask serves as a personal reminder of her commitment to public health.
