Beyoncé, Zach Bryan Nominated for People’s Choice Country Awards

The People’s Choice Country Awards, which made its debut in 2023, is set to return for a second edition this September on NBC. On Thursday, the nominations were announced, featuring prominent names bridging country and mainstream pop, such as Beyoncé, Shaboozey, Zach Bryan, Kacey Musgraves, Morgan Wallen, and Jelly Roll.

Zach Bryan led the nominations with 19, followed by Beyoncé with 17 and Kacey Musgraves with 15. Interestingly, none of these three had massive success on country radio this year, highlighting how this award show aims to differentiate itself from the CMA and ACM Awards by focusing on broader appeal.

The fan-voted awards show will air on NBC and Peacock on September 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, live from the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, with Shania Twain as the host.

Newcomer Shaboozey, whose hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” has been topping the Billboard Hot 100, earned 12 nominations. Shaboozey made a significant impact on country radio, unlike Beyoncé, Zach Bryan, and Kacey Musgraves, whose latest releases didn’t receive much radio play.

Nominated for the top award, the People’s Artist of 2024, are Beyoncé, Jelly Roll, Kacey Musgraves, Kane Brown, Lainey Wilson, Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen, and Zach Bryan.

For those who didn’t make it into the top category, there are divisions for top male and female artists, as well as duo/group artists, emphasizing both gender-segregated categories and mixed-gender categories.

In its second year, the list of categories has been expanded from 12 to 18, including Male Song, Female Song, Group/Duo Song, Cover Song, New Artist Song, and Storyteller Song.

The People’s Choice Country Awards entered a competitive field of country awards last year, hosted initially by Little Big Town. NBC thus joined ABC, which hosts the CMA Awards in November, and CBS, which began airing the CMT Awards last year.

The show is a spinoff of the long-running People’s Choice Awards, last aired on NBC in February.

The CMA Awards will be up next in the country awards calendar, scheduled for November.
