Big & Rich’s Only #1 Hit Isn’t “Save A Horse (Ride A Cowboy)”

When you think Big & Rich, you think “Save A Horse (Ride A Cowboy),” but would you believe that this iconic track is not their only career number one? Interestingly enough, “Save A Horse” wasn’t the song that topped the charts for the duo. Released as the second single from their 2004 album *Horse of a Different Color*, it quickly became a favorite among music fans, even if it was sometimes enjoyed ironically.

Its popularity extended beyond just radio play. ESPN used it to promote the 2004 World Series of Poker, it made appearances in various movies and TV shows such as *The Office* and *Magic Mike*, and it’s almost a staple at karaoke nights. Certified 2x Platinum by RIAA, “Save A Horse” has cemented its place in country music history.

Despite this, the song did not perform as well on the charts as one might expect. It peaked at 11 on both the Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts and only climbed to 56 on the Hot 100. Three years later, however, Big & Rich achieved their first number one country hit with a very different kind of song.

“Lost In This Moment,” a wedding ballad, captured the hearts of listeners and soared to the top of the charts. Written from the perspective of a groom at the altar, the song delves into the emotions of being completely consumed with love on his wedding day.
