Big Sean Drops ‘Better Me Than You’ Album Ft. Gunna, Kodak Black & More

Big Sean has made a comeback with his first album since 2020, “Better Me Than You,” which was released on Friday, Aug. 30.

The Detroit rapper’s sixth studio album features 21 tracks and includes collaborations with artists like Gunna, Charlie Wilson, Kodak Black, Bryson Tiller, DJ Premier, Cash Cobain, Teyana Taylor, Larry June, Eryn Allen Kane, and more. Even Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson makes a cameo.

In addition to star-studded features, Big Sean adds a touch of humor by sampling Ray J’s famous call into “The Breakfast Club” from 2011. The track also samples 2Pac’s “I Ain’t Mad at Cha.”

Ahead of the album’s release, Sean opened up in an emotional Instagram Live, admitting he was nervous about putting the project out.

“I’ve been having a hard time, dawg, I’m not gonna lie,” he shared. “I’ve been trying to finish an album, and I’m tired of overthinking it. And I’ve been trying to stay sober, so I’m dealing with raw emotions.”

Sean credited his mother for helping him overcome his creative doubts and insecurities.

“I appreciate my mom for being that guardian angel, always giving me advice,” he noted. “She really talked me through it. I haven’t been sleeping a lot. I’ve been giving this my all, and I’m burned out. But I do this for the people who support me.”

In 2024, Big Sean released several singles including “Together Forever,” produced by The Alchemist, and tracks like “On Up,” “Yes,” “Ya Don’t Stop,” and “Precision.” He also appeared as a guest on Eminem’s “The Death of Slim Shady” single “Tobey” featuring BabyTron.

Big Sean has previously enjoyed success with three consecutive No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200, with his most recent being “Detroit 2” in 2020. “Better Me Than You” was initially slated for release on Aug. 9 but was delayed to the end of the month following a leak.
