Billy Ray Cyrus and Firerose Finalize Their Divorce

Billy Ray Cyrus and Firerose, born Johanna Hodges, have finalized their divorce, according to a statement from Cyrus’ lawyers on his Instagram on Monday (Aug. 5).

The statement from attorneys Rose Palermo and Jason Talley revealed the settlement was reached on Friday (Aug. 2) and the ex-couple was declared legally separated three days later. “Mr. Cyrus is relieved to put this nightmare behind him,” the message read. It also mentioned that Hodges recently changed her last name to “Cyrus,” which Cyrus believes supports his claim that her motive for marriage was to acquire his last name.

Billy Ray Cyrus also shared his thoughts directly, stating, “I’m just very relieved. This has been absolutely the most crazy insane scam I have ever heard of … Not only was it a web of lies that put me in physical danger … it was a matter of the heart. Love is blind … that’s for sure.”

A source close to Firerose countered this in a statement to Billboard, arguing that if the case had gone to trial, Firerose and her team would have provided substantial evidence to refute Cyrus’ narrative. The source added that Firerose was more focused on ending the ongoing smear campaign and emotional distress, choosing to settle for $0 and cut ties with Cyrus promptly.

The source also clarified that Firerose had filed for Cyrus’ last name shortly after they got married, not recently, as Cyrus claimed.

Cyrus filed for divorce on May 22, citing “irreconcilable differences” and “inappropriate marital conduct” seven months after their marriage. On June 13, he filed an emergency motion accusing Firerose of making nearly $100,000 in unauthorized credit card charges, requesting a temporary restraining order to stop her, which her attorneys denied as “untrue.”

Following the divorce filing, Firerose accused Cyrus of domestic abuse, claiming he was psychologically abusive and “unpredictable and volatile” due to alleged substance abuse. She also stated that Cyrus filed for divorce a day before she was scheduled for a preventative double mastectomy. In response, Cyrus’ lawyers “vehemently” denied these allegations, arguing that it was the plaintiff who had been abused, not the defendant.

A source close to Firerose claimed that a former marital dissolution agreement included a clause asking her to deny having BRCA, the “breast cancer” gene. Firerose’s test results and medical records allegedly proved her condition, leading to the clause’s removal. Her surgery is scheduled for later this month.

In July, a leaked 90-second audio clip surfaced online, capturing Cyrus berating Firerose for allegedly making him late to an event. Cyrus’ attorneys addressed the leak, stating, “Of course, she was intentionally on her best behavior since she knew the recording was being made.” They questioned why Firerose would want to return to live with Cyrus and explain herself if he were truly the person she portrayed him to be in public.
