Blake Lively Discusses Challenges of Playing Lily in “It Ends With Us”

Blake Lively and Brandon Sklenar are set to bring Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel “It Ends With Us” to the big screen in a highly anticipated film adaptation. With the book residing on the New York Times bestseller list for a remarkable 164 weeks, fans have been eagerly awaiting its cinematic debut.

Lively, who is cast as the protagonist Lily, expressed a sense of responsibility to deliver a performance that resonates deeply with the book’s dedicated audience. “I felt I had to deliver something meaningful for the audience, who have been fans of the book,” she said.

Sklenar, taking on the role of Lily’s first love, Atlas, confessed his initial unawareness of the book’s immense popularity. “I knew of its existence, but I wasn’t aware of how big it was and sort of the cultural significance of it,” he admitted.

Lively described her character Lily as a blend of contradictions. “She’s incredibly strong and self-assured and knows who she is. Yet she’s vulnerable and tender and she gets lost,” she explained. This duality is what makes Lily such a relatable and compelling character.

Sklenar shared his hopes for the film’s impact, particularly its potential to empower women who relate to Lily’s journey. He also wishes that the movie would inspire men who see themselves in the character of Ryle to acknowledge their flaws and strive for positive change.

A significant social media conversation about the film centers on its soundtrack, especially the inclusion of Taylor Swift’s song “My Tears Ricochet.” Lively revealed that Swift was involved throughout the filmmaking process and that the song’s addition came after it was featured in the trailer. “She was with me throughout this whole process,” Lively shared. “So I think that, you know, for better or worse, she experienced the whole thing with me.”

As fans of the novel eagerly await the release of “It Ends With Us,” the film promises to deliver an emotional and powerful adaptation of Hoover’s beloved story. With Blake Lively and Brandon Sklenar leading the cast, viewers can expect a faithful and heartfelt rendition of the bestseller.
