‘Blue Eye Samurai,’ ‘Jim Henson Idea Man,’ Marvel Studios Among Early Emmy Winners

Netflix’s “Blue Eye Samurai” has taken the early lead at this year’s Primetime Emmys, landing three awards as the Television Academy announced this year’s winners in the animation, costume, innovation in emerging media programming, and motion design categories. HBO/Max leads in network tallies so far with four wins from projects like “Taylor Mac’s 24-Decade History of Popular Music,” “Scavengers Reign,” “Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake,” and “Clone High”.

The juried category entrants are screened by a panel of professionals in their respective peer groups, such as Animation, Costume Design, Emerging Media Programming, and Motion and Title Design. Each category has the potential for one, multiple, or no entries winning an Emmy.

As there were no nominees in these categories, the process involved a one-step evaluation and voting procedure through open discussions about each entrant’s work, along with a thorough review of whether they merit an Emmy.

Juried awards will be presented during the 76th Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Saturday, Sept. 7, and Sunday, Sept. 8, at the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live. An edited version of the full Creative Arts Emmys ceremonies will air Saturday, Sept. 14, at 8 p.m. on FXX.
