Bob Costas Displays His Collection

For anyone who has ever worried about the background behind them during a video conference call, Bob Costas can certainly relate. While most people might fret over tacky artwork or unappealing furniture, Costas faced a rather unique situation when setting up for an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show this past Friday.

Patrick immediately noticed that Costas had a wall full of Emmy Awards behind him. Known for his humility, Costas isn’t someone who typically flaunts his achievements. However, he’s won so many Emmys—29 to be exact—that they are quite literally everywhere in his home. Impressively, Costas is the only person in television history to have earned the prestigious award for sports, news, and entertainment.

This led to a humorous exchange between the two. “You could have picked other rooms, right?” Patrick queried.

“No, this is the one that works best. I know where you’re going with this… It’s what’s behind me, right?” Costas responded while gesturing to the collection of Emmys.

“Yeah,” Patrick confirmed.

Costas attempted to explain his predicament. “I tried to crop the shot, so it wasn’t there, but when I do this,” he said, moving his camera, “I cut the top of my head off.”

Patrick continued to tease Costas about the display.

“You know, there’s more behind me—look,” Costas said as he panned his camera around to reveal even more statuettes.

Patrick then asked, “Bob, do you have any rooms without Emmys?”

“Yes, just a few,” Costas replied.

“Your wife won’t let you have an Emmy in the bedroom, though,” Patrick jested.

“No, no. That crosses the line,” Costas conceded with a chuckle.

It must be a pleasant predicament for Costas to have so many accolades that they populate his home to such an extent.
