Boomerang Shuts Down, Good News for Max Subscribers

This week, Warner Bros. Discovery announced the closure of its classic cartoon streaming service, Boomerang, effective from September 30. The service, which offered subscriptions at $5.99 a month, was launched in 2017.

In emails sent to Boomerang subscribers, Warner Bros. Discovery clarified that customers would receive partial refunds based on the remaining unused subscription time. The email also mentioned that most of Boomerang’s classic animated shows and movies would transition to Max.

Warner Bros. Discovery communicated, “On Max, you can enjoy loads of Boomerang fan-favorites with Scooby, Bugs Bunny, Tom & Jerry, and more!”

“While some Boomerang content may not be available, you’ll have access to Max’s full catalog of iconic series, hit movies, fresh originals, breaking news, and family favorites, including The Amazing World of Gumball, Teen Titans Go!, Lego Batman, and more,” they added, without specifying which titles wouldn’t make the transfer.

For those who are subscribed to Max’s ad-free tier, this can be considered good news. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. Discovery assured that Boomerang’s content would be added “with no change to your subscription price until further notice.”

The impending shutdown of Boomerang raises concerns about the accessibility of certain classic cartoons, potentially making them difficult to watch in the future. This situation adds to the ongoing challenges of media preservation, but there remains hope that Warner Bros. Discovery will find a new platform for these beloved shows.
