Brad Pitt and George Clooney’s “Wolfs” Streams on Apple TV+ Sep 27, No Theaters

One of the delights of the Oceans trilogy is the undeniable chemistry between Brad Pitt and George Clooney. Their on-screen camaraderie is a key reason why I often find myself rewatching these films. Hence, the excitement was palpable when I saw the first trailer for Wolfs, an action-comedy that reunites Pitt and Clooney.

Initially, Wolfs was scheduled for a theatrical release next month, which I had been eagerly anticipating. However, Apple has altered its plans, opting for an earlier release on Apple TV Plus.

Contrary to what one might think, reports suggest that Wolfs is a highly enjoyable film. Apple seems confident enough to green-light a sequel already. For me, this is a must-watch regardless of critics’ opinions.

The initial release plan for Wolfs was a wide theatrical debut on September 20th, with a 45-day run in theaters. It would then move to video-on-demand services and eventually, make its way to Apple TV+ by late 2024.

According to Deadline, Apple has revised its release strategy. While Wolfs will still hit theaters on September 20th, it will be a limited release. A week later, on September 27th, it will be available on Apple TV+.

The reasons for this change remain unclear, though Apple has confirmed the new schedule. This does not signify a shift in its hybrid release strategy, as films like the Formula One drama F1 will still go through the planned theatrical and streaming release stages. Future decisions will reportedly depend on marketplace trends.

Other recent Apple releases have seen mixed results. Fly Me to the Moon, starring Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum, underperformed in theaters. The Instigators, featuring Matt Damon and Casey Affleck, started with a limited theatrical release before its impending Apple TV+ debut, and has received negative reviews.

In contrast, Wolfs has tested strongly as a “crowd pleaser,” according to Deadline. Apple is already moving forward with a sequel, once again involving Jon Watts as writer, director, and producer, and retaining Clooney and Pitt in their roles. Watts directed the first film and is best known for the Spider-Man trilogy for Marvel.

As a fan of the Pitt-Clooney duo, this is thrilling news. Wolfs need not aim for Oscar glory; its potential to entertain is enough. The plot itself sounds intriguing: Two “lone wolfs” hired to clean up the same mess discover they must collaborate, leading to inevitable chaos and comedy.

I am eager to see how the story unfolds and how the dynamic between Pitt and Clooney evolves in this new venture. For now, you can catch a sneak peek of Wolfs by watching the trailer.
