‘Bridgerton’ Season 4 Casts Yerin Ha as Benedict’s Love Interest Sophie Beckett

Bridgerton has cast Yerin Ha as the new love interest for Benedict Bridgerton, played by Luke Thompson, in the upcoming fourth season of Shonda Rhimes’ hit Netflix series.

Sources have confirmed that Ha will portray Sophie Beckett, who develops a slow-burning romance with Benedict, a storyline taken from Julia Quinn’s novel An Offer From a Gentleman, which Season 4 will be based on.

According to Netflix’s official description: “The fourth season of Bridgerton turns its focus to the bohemian second son, Benedict. Despite his elder and younger brothers both being happily married, Benedict is reluctant to settle down—until he meets a captivating Lady in Silver at his mother’s masquerade ball.”

This “Lady in Silver” is Sophie. In the novel, Sophie is the daughter of an earl and one of his maids. Although she was raised in his house out of a sense of duty, he never claimed her as his own and allowed her to endure a troubling upbringing at the hands of her stepmother and stepsisters.

While Benedict’s quest for love is the subject of the third novel, the TV series opted to shift the order, with Season 3 adapting the fourth book, Romancing Mister Bridgerton, which focuses on the romance between Colin Bridgerton, portrayed by Luke Newton, and Penelope Featherington, played by Nicola Coughlan.

Sophie’s casting had been much anticipated, even before Netflix officially announced that the fourth season would center on her love story with Benedict.

The finale of Season 3 hinted at the beginning of Benedict’s love story. Eloise, played by Claudia Jessie, who is off to Scotland with Francesca, promises to return in time for their mother’s famed masquerade ball. This event is crucial since it’s where Benedict and Sophie first meet in the books.

In July, Netflix confirmed that Luke Thompson’s Benedict would take the lead for Season 4.
