The chiropractor, known as “Dr. Abs,” initiated divorce proceedings in January and has now opened up about their pre-split relationship during an interview with his divorce coach, Rene Garcia.

Abasolo revealed that his thoughts about divorce began brewing when he initially asked for a separation a few months before filing.

“I was sleeping in a different bedroom,” shared the chiropractor, adding that they were already attending marriage counseling.

Despite seeing some progress through counseling, Abasolo admitted he had second thoughts about the divorce. “I actually set aside my divorce thoughts to give the relationship one last major push, but as time went on, things just went right back to the way they were,” he confessed.

Bryan elaborated that he and Lindsay had an “unhealthy communication pattern.” He often found himself learning about her life primarily through social media.

“We didn’t spend enough time with each other,” he explained. “In my estimation, we saw what the other person was doing in the relationship mainly on Instagram, although we lived in the same house.”

Ultimately, Abasolo decided to ask for a divorce following an argument on December 31, 2023.

“That was one of the toughest things I ever had to do in my life,” he explained. “How I felt when I did it, I felt like I was being blindfolded and then suddenly I was able to see sunlight,” he recalled. “It was uncomfortable, and then there was all this fear that entered my body.”

He further described the moment as a mix of emotions—on one hand, he felt stuck in a “weird friend zone,” and on the other, he had great admiration for Rachel and cherished their team spirit. “There were amazing times and amazing feelings of us both starting with very little and being part of a true team,” he commented.

“There came a time where I needed to stop letting circumstances and my fear delay what was inevitably going to happen,” Abasolo admitted.

After four years of marriage, Abasolo filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences. Months later, in May, he requested emergency spousal support and at least $75,000 in legal fees from Lindsay. She countered by claiming he was not in need of the funds, arguing that the requested amount “far exceed[s] the actual marital lifestyle and his need,” according to documents obtained by PEOPLE.
