Buy Sammy Hagar’s Ferrari, Get Invited to Party: ‘Bring Your Passport’

Rocker Sammy Hagar and his bandmates are turning up the volume this summer as they crisscross the globe on their Best of All Worlds tour. However, once the tour wraps up in Japan on September 23, Hagar will shift his focus to another one of his passions: fast cars.

Come October 12, Hagar’s cherished 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari will go up for auction at Barrett-Jackson after a previous attempt to sell the car was postponed due to the need for a new battery. This low-mileage supercar, with only 1,100 miles on the odometer, is expected to fetch a significant sum.

“It’s certainly a bittersweet thing for me to hand those keys over to the new owner, but someone needs to enjoy that car as it’s made to be driven and it’s too much car for my expertise,” Hagar shared from Nashville, ahead of a performance at Bridgestone Arena. He added that he hopes to become friends with the new owner and perhaps share some future drives.

Adding a bit of intrigue, Hagar mentioned that the winning bidder should bring their passport to Arizona. After the auction, Hagar plans to jet off to Cabo San Lucas on his private plane for his 77th birthday celebration on October 13. “I jokingly say to anyone bidding on this car, ‘bring your passport,’ you never know,” he remarked.

Interestingly, Hagar’s private jet inspired the Ferrari’s color scheme. Designed during a trip to Maranello, Italy, the car features a custom cappuccino shade with his initials and birth date on the carbon fiber steering wheel. Hagar, a fan of numerology, noted with excitement the alignment of his birthday with the sale. “I’ll be celebrating my birthday, knowing that just as happy will be the lucky person that lands this, the most beautiful LaFerrari of them all.”

Craig Jackson, CEO of Barrett-Jackson, emphasized the thorough preparation of the car for the fall auction. “The decision to hold Sammy’s LaFerrari for our fall auction was the right one, and ensures it’s a truly immaculate supercar for the next owner.”

The 2024 Barrett-Jackson auction will take place from October 10-13 at WestWorld of Scottsdale and will be broadcast live on FYI and the History Channel. There’s been considerable anticipation around the sale of Hagar’s Ferrari, sparking interest from fellow rock stars like Rod Stewart, who went on to purchase his own LaFerrari.

Initially, the sale was stalled due to the need for a new battery. Given the unique and high-cost parts for such rare vehicles, securing and replacing the battery was no small feat. A replacement was eventually sourced from the Ferrari factory and installed by Ferrari of San Francisco.

Hagar’s fascination with fast cars is well-known, dating back to his early days with Montrose. His iconic song “I Can’t Drive 55” captures this lifelong passion. Over the years, he has amassed a significant collection of exotic cars, a hobby that serendipitously contributed to his tenure as Van Halen’s frontman, thanks to a shared mechanic.

Financially bolstered by his entrepreneurial success, particularly from the sale of Cabo Wabo tequila, Hagar managed to accumulate a variety of supercars. Around 2013, he became captivated by Ferrari’s latest marvel, the LaFerrari, an engineering feat combining a V12 gas engine with electric motors for a combined 1000 horsepower.

Now, this rare supercar, which represents both Hagar’s passion for speed and rock ‘n’ roll, awaits a new enthusiast with deep pockets to take the wheel.
