C. Thomas Howell Stars in “One Mile” and Sequel “One More Mile” from Republic

Deadline has reported that actor and musician C. Thomas Howell and Sara Canning have been cast in the feature film “One Mile” and its sequel “One More Mile.” Howell, known for his role as Ponyboy Curtis in “The Outsiders,” is currently visible in the Dennis Quaid-led movie “Reagan,” portraying Caspar Weinberger, the secretary of defense under President Ronald Reagan.

“One Mile” and “One More Mile” are projects from Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment and Paramount’s Republic Pictures. The movies, written by John Hlavin with rewrites from TJ Brady and Rasheed Newson, will be directed by Adam Davidson. Filming for both movies is set to begin on September 9th on Vancouver Island.

Howell and Canning will join previously announced leads Ryan Phillippe and Amélie Hoeferle. The storyline revolves around Danny (Phillippe) and his daughter (Hoeferle), who are visiting colleges in an attempt to mend their estranged relationship. During their journey, they find themselves lost and confronted by a hostile, off-the-grid community. Canning will play Janine, Danny’s ex-wife and Alex’s mother, who arranged the college visits. When she is unable to contact them, she becomes worried and will stop at nothing to locate her daughter.

Howell will play Stanley, the patriarch of the Dixon family, a charismatic yet dangerous leader of the off-the-grid community. His character, driven by a desire to preserve the future of his descendants, uses kidnapped victims to introduce new DNA into his deteriorating bloodline.

In 2023, Howell starred alongside “Walking Dead” actress Paola Lázaro in the Netflix original series “Obliterated.” The show is an intense and wild ride, following an elite special forces group who, after defusing a bomb in Las Vegas, celebrate in full Vegas style. However, after their wild party, they discover the bomb was a fake. They must then overcome their impairments from the celebratory night to complete their mission.

Howell can also be seen in the bull riding drama “Ride,” featuring Annabeth Gish, Forrie J. Smith, and writer/director Jake Allyn. Additionally, Howell will join Michille Hurd, from “The Walking Dead: Dead City,” in a romantic western titled “Where the Wind Blows.”
