Cailee Spaeny Teases Knives Out 3, Praises Director Rian Johnson

Knives Out 3 is now in production. The third film from Rian Johnson’s murder mystery franchise is titled Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. One of the stars of the film is Cailee Spaeny, known for her upcoming role in Alien: Romulus, set to premiere in August.

In a recent interview with Total Film, Spaeny shared why she is especially excited to work on Knives Out 3, highlighting Johnson’s unique filmmaking style which she described as “old-school.”

“Rian is a very rare breed. You just don’t get filmmakers like him anymore,” Spaeny noted. “The intelligence… the equal parts intelligence, and saying something, and also pure entertainment, and a director who really feels old-school in the way they speak the language of a director. Everything in him, he’s just made to do this.”

As with the previous films, Knives Out 3 features a star-studded ensemble cast led by Daniel Craig, who reprises his role as Detective Benoit Blanc. Spaeny acknowledged that working with such a distinguished cast can be intimidating but expressed that she is ready for the challenge.

“We’re already in prep, and it’s all happening. And I just went over there today. Everyone seems in good spirits,” Spaeny shared. “I haven’t met the rest of the cast, but I’m terrified and also ecstatic to work with this group of people because it’s top-notch. It’s the crème de la crème of acting. So I feel very honored to be part of it, and I hope that I do a good job!”

The plot details for Knives Out 3 are currently under wraps. However, it has been teased that Blanc must solve his “most dangerous case yet” in the film.

The ensemble cast for Knives Out 3 includes notable names like Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, and Thomas Haden Church.

Rian Johnson continues his roles as both writer and director for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. The film is also produced by Johnson, Ram Bergman, and Katie McNeill.

Fans can look forward to Knives Out 3 streaming globally on Netflix in 2025.
