Caitlin Clark Hits 100th 3, Posts Triple-Double in Fever’s 93-86 Win

In a standout performance, Caitlin Clark made history during the Indiana Fever’s matchup against the Los Angeles Sparks, becoming the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 100 three-pointers in a single season. Finishing with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists, Clark secured her second career triple-double as the Fever triumphed over the Sparks with a score of 93-86 on Wednesday night.

Clark hit her second three-pointer of the game and officially marked her 100th three of the season midway through the third quarter. She did not stop there; by the end of the game, she netted a total of 102 three-pointers, concluding the night with a shooting performance of 4 for 10 from beyond the arc. This achievement sets her apart as the first rookie in WNBA history to accomplish the feat of 100 three-pointers in a single season.

Additionally, she claimed her spot as the first rookie and fifth player overall in the WNBA to achieve multiple triple-doubles in a season. She joins the ranks of notable players like Alyssa Thomas, Courtney Williams, Sabrina Ionescu, and Candace Parker.

Aliyah Boston was another key player for Indiana, contributing 24 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. The Fever, who are now 18-16 this season, officially secured a playoff spot when both the Atlanta Dream and Chicago Sky lost earlier in the week. This victory marked Indiana’s fifth consecutive win, the first such streak since 2015, and they have thrived at home, boasting a record of 10-1 since June 1.

With just 16.4 seconds left in the game, Clark knocked down two free throws to extend Indiana’s lead to seven points. On the ensuing possession, Sparks guard Kia Nurse attempted a three-pointer but missed, allowing Clark to pull down the rebound, thereby completing her triple-double.

Post-game, Clark reflected, saying, “Of course I knew, but honestly, like, we were just trying to get stops.” Her determination was evident not just in her scoring but also in her defensive efforts. A crucial moment came when Clark disrupted a pass intended for the paint, leading to an assist for Boston, who made a layup to bring the Fever ahead 91-84 with just 25.2 seconds remaining.

Kelsey Mitchell also made significant contributions, scoring 18 points, just two shy of her eighth consecutive game with 20 or more points. NaLyssa Smith added another 13 points to the Fever’s total.

On the other hand, Odyssey Sims led the Los Angeles Sparks with 20 points in a losing effort. Teammates Dearica Hamby and Rae Burrell each chipped in with 16 points, while Azura Stevens recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. However, the Sparks have struggled on the road, suffering five consecutive losses and winning only two of their last 17 away games this season.
