Camila Mendes Cast as Teela in Amazon’s He-Man Movie

Camila Mendes, the actress best known for her role as Veronica in the CW series Riverdale, has secured the pivotal role of Teela in Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films’ live-action adaptation of Masters of the Universe.

Mendes will star opposite Nicholas Galitzine (The Idea of You), who is set to play He-Man in this adaptation of the widely popular toy brand introduced in the 1980s. The film will be directed by Travis Knight, the founder of Laika and director of the company’s Kubo and the Two Strings.

Although plot details remain under wraps, the story revolves around Prince Adam of Eternia. Utilizing his Power Sword, he transforms into the mighty He-Man, gaining superhuman strength and abilities to defend the planet from the evil Skeletor and his armies.

Teela, the character Mendes will portray, is the captain of the royal guard and the adopted daughter of Man-at-Arms, the royal family’s weapons inventor. Throughout various animated series, Teela has often suspected Prince Adam of being He-Man and has sometimes been depicted as his romantic interest.

The screenplay for this film is penned by Chris Butler, following initial drafts by David Callaham and brothers Aaron and Adam Nee.

Escape Artists and Mattel Films are producing the movie, which will be released in theaters worldwide on June 5, 2026.

Landing this high-profile role is a significant achievement for Mendes, who screentested for the part two weeks ago along with rising stars Clara Rugaard, Alexandra Shipp, and Quintessa Swindell.

Mendes first captivated audiences with her portrayal of Veronica in Riverdale, which concluded its run last year. Her recent projects include the 2024 films Upgraded and Música. Additionally, she reunited with Robinson in 2022 for the Netflix teen black comedy Do Revenge. This fall, Mendes is slated to film a lead role in Sony’s reboot of the horror movie I Know What You Did Last Summer.

She is represented by CAA, Luber Roklin Entertainment, and Hansen Jacobsen.
