Candace Owens: Outfits That Totally Missed the Mark

If there’s one thing we know about political commentator Candace Owens, it’s that she typically takes her fashion choices seriously. Owens’ signature look often features a structured blazer and a modest button-front shirt, making a strong visual impression that suits her outspoken public persona. She usually has a keen eye for flattering colors and silhouettes. However, even the most calculated fashionista can sometimes fall short, and Owens has been spotted in several outfits that completely missed the mark.

It can be exciting to step outside of one’s style comfort zone, but Owens hasn’t always had the best luck in doing so. Typically, her fashion fails occur when she strays from the mix of tailored lines and soft, feminine touches that usually characterize her outfits. Here, we dissect some of the worst examples of her deviations from her tried-and-true style formula and the unfortunate looks that ensued.

In 2020, Candace Owens had some harsh words for Harry Styles over his choice to wear a dress for a Vogue photo shoot. Her critique on X, formerly Twitter, followed her usual controversial style, claiming Styles’ outfit was symptomatic of a larger societal issue.

One X user pointed out a potential hypocrisy in her comments by sharing a photo of Owens in a bizarrely mismatched outfit, combining black Nike athletic pants with a long brown blazer. The user tweeted, “Why is Candace Owens judging Harry Styles for wearing a dress when she’s out here looking like this?” The clashing elements of Owens’ outfit make this criticism understandable.

As Vogue describes, there’s a specific approach for incorporating athleisure into a chic look: “Elevated athleisure outfits begin with a strong foundation: choose one standout piece … as your home base. Then, surround the look with a solid roster of timeless yet trendy wardrobe essentials, like a notable knit or a warming winter coat.” It appears Owens attempted this formula but was wholly unsuccessful.

We’re all for posting candid photos with friends, but Candace Owens’ outfit in a birthday shout-out to Brittany Aldean on Instagram left much to be desired. In the photo, Owens wears a dark blue one-piece outfit that looks very comfortable — maybe too comfortable. Its slouchy, oversized silhouette could easily double as pajamas.

According to Merrick’s Art, adding some definition at the waist can make slouchy outfits like this look more polished. It seems Owens tried to do that, but the barely there waist tie blends into the fabric and fails to give the needed definition. A belt in a complementary color might have salvaged the outfit, but it remains a missed opportunity.

A bold print can make a memorable statement, but the green and white dress Candace Owens wore on an episode of “Candace” in 2022 was just distracting. With its overly busy print on the skirt and outdated buttons on the bodice, this dress was a mix of bad choices. Stylist Todd Ramos explains, “Often, when an outfit doesn’t work, it’s because of the neckline.” The neckline on this dress made Owens’ neck appear shorter when fully buttoned.

However, the biggest tragedy here is that Owens has often demonstrated how fantastic she can look in the right dress, as seen in a 2022 Instagram post. Unfortunately, this long-sleeved monstrosity doesn’t measure up to her typically professional looks, and we hope she doesn’t repeat this colorful experiment.

While an oversized blazer can look stunning, it’s possible to overdo it. This happened when Candace Owens appeared on a Fox News segment in a brown tweed blazer that looked several sizes too large. An X user described the oversized blazer as “fresh off the rack from the Men’s Big & Tall section at Burlington’s Coat Factory.”

The description fits perfectly, as the oversized blazer appeared borrowed from her husband’s closet. According to the style blog Later Ever After, this look could have been saved with a simple change: “Roll up your sleeves once or twice so your wrist is showing. This will avoid making the blazer look too long and not fitted.” Unfortunately, Owens didn’t use this straightforward hack, making her look more like a child trying on an adult’s jacket.

Candace Owens often shares photos of her with her husband, George Farmer, and the two look very happy together. However, in a 2021 Instagram post celebrating her husband’s birthday, her outfit was overshadowed by the larger-than-life statement sleeves on her blouse.

Statement sleeves can be a fun addition, but the pants Owens chose threw off the balance. The style blog Living After Midnite suggests, “If you’re wearing voluminous sleeves, keep what you’re wearing on the bottom slimmer such as a straight leg pant or pencil skirt.” Unfortunately, Owens did not follow this advice. Her jeans’ wide leg, combined with the volume from her sleeves, made her body look wider. A tighter-fitting pair of pants would have helped the sleeves stand out for the right reasons.
