Cardi B Confirms Sophomore Album Release This Year

Cardi B is determined to release her sophomore album this year, even with big personal events unfolding in her life. On Friday (Aug. 2), sources close to the rapper told TMZ that Cardi is still on track to drop her highly-anticipated album, despite announcing her pregnancy and divorce from her husband Offset on Thursday (Aug. 1).

The sources revealed that Cardi has already completed more than three-quarters of her new album, leaving a decent amount of work to do in the next four months. A representative for Cardi B confirmed this information to XXL, assuring that the rapper plans to release her album in 2023.

Earlier this year, Cardi herself had stated that she would be delaying her sophomore album’s release to 2025. Her decision came after a fan suggested she take a break following some critical comments she made to an impatient social media user regarding the lack of new music. In a now-deleted comment, Cardi wrote, “Exactly, and I tell myself this all the time… I hate that I fall back and start interacting again, and it bites me in the a*s. Anyway, no album this year, I don’t care. I’m relaxing this year, dropping these features I already committed to and traveling and enjoying my summer.”

It’s been six years since Cardi B released her Grammy-winning debut album, Invasion of Privacy, in 2018. Earlier this year, she had promised a new album in 2024, stating in March that she wouldn’t let her anxiety or any external opinions stop her from releasing new music.

“I promise y’all this year, I’m not letting my anxiety, I’m not letting what haters say, I’m not letting what fans say,” Cardi said in a social media video. “If I do a song, I’m just gon’ f**king drop it. Well, I have no choice because I’m dropping my album this year. So, stay tuned for the announcement. But, don’t play with me.”

Despite the delay in the sophomore album’s release, the Bronx rapper has been keeping her fans entertained with new music. Her latest singles, “Like What (Freestyle)” and “Enough (Miami),” have been well-received. “Enough (Miami)” even peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
